I have never palyed any Heroes of Might & Magic games - which I am told is the same "kind" of game as Songs of Conquest - in the same way that Final Fantasy 7 is the same "kind" of game as Persona 4. That said, this game is gorgeous. There are people who complain about the graphics being "dated" ... what drugs are these people taking because I want some. The pixel art in this game is SO good. The combat is like Fire Emblem except on smaller maps that are hex grids and there are spells. The overworld is like Civ5 except much simpler and there isn't any micromanaging of the cities. Every city you expand to or capture is an objective improvement. The 4 different faction all play very differently - EXTREMELY differently - to the point where it almost feels like there are 4 different games to be played depending on the faction you choose. The maps are good, the music is GREAT, the modding community is moderately active and new maps are not hard to find, the AI is reasonably competent for practicing, and I haven't ever had a single problem in multi-player. This is 5-star game (4-star MINIMUM) especially when you consider the price tag and play time. Not only that, but I come back to this game every 6 months or so and there is always more content that is more polished than the last time I played. Seriously, who could even think this is a bad game?
