A lot of 2D platformers these days tend to derive there challenge from puzzles or combat more than actual platforming which is fine, but I can't help but miss the days where the challenge in a platformer came from the actual platforming. Rayman Origins not only scratches that particular itch, but does so in a way that makes it the only non-Nintendo based 2D platformer that I would put in the same league as Mario 3 or 4. More than Little Big Planet, Super Meat Boy, or even Nintendo's own New Super Mario Bros. games, this is a pure 2D platformer for the modern age. It was an absolute pleasure 100%ing this game and I would call it nothing short of an absolute masterpiece. I just can't believe Ubisoft of all companies made it, but hey whatever works.
