Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear

A slog to get through

Only minor bugs, great artwork, level design, VA work and music. Unfortunately what really made the original games special was the writing, characters and stories, all of which are lacking in SoD. - The PC went from a relatively neutral personality in the originals, to being pompous and insufferable. Did every single line have to be a desperate attempt at wit? I frequently wished I could choose none of the dialogue options. - The "Hooded Man" went from one of the most awesome villains in any game to a creepy weird dude. - Aside from M'Khiin, who had a great premise, none of the new characters were compelling or interesting. - The quests were shallow and uncreative, including the main. The Temple of Bhaal was cool, but getting through most of the rest of this game was tedious. If you've never played Baldur's Gate before, skip this and go straight to BG2 for the original experience. If you're desperate for more, and you enjoyed the dialogue with the EE characters, then go for it. Personally, this felt more like a fan-made mod than a canonical entry to the series.
