Strike Suit Zero

Worth a play-through

With a few exceptions, Strike Suit Zero is well-suited to casual players. It isn't excessively long or terribly complex. There aren't too many skills to master, although I still haven't completely mastered everything. Without the patch, the game is just too hard. With the patch installed, I prefer to play on "easy" mode, which I still found challenging. I played through each mission a few times. I managed to get all of the upgrades, plus service medals on most missions. It gets fun once you unlock everything and learn how to fly a little. I used an Xbox 360 controller, and that worked out really well. It's possible to play with keyboard and mouse too. The game looks great on my laptop and is mostly fluid at 1080p resolution with all effects enabled. The soundtrack is good, the voice acting is fine, and the story is so-so. SSZ strikes a good balance between variety and length. There is not a lot of variety; the game is therefore rather short. My biggest gripe is the last mission. While it was a good concept, it departs from the rest of the game and there are no checkpoints! If you die, you must start over. It's maddening and time consuming. In general, Strike Suit Zero is good. It feels like the team knew what they could achieve with the resources they had, and they stuck to it. SSZ is worth it if you like this sort of thing. I got it on one of GOG's deals for something like the price of a weekend adult ticket to the movies.
