Masterpiece of an RPG and definitely one of the top five RPGs ever made for me (and I have played most ever released). Awesome take on a Steampunk and Fantasy amalgamation along with a brilliant story and twists as well as deep RPG, combat, progression, world-building and exploration mechanics. This was the natural progression for Tim, Jason and Leonard moving on from Fallout and it shows. Simply a masterpiece, even with the bugs (that have mostly been ironed out over the years).
After having finished Deus Ex a good 12 times over the past 11 or so years, all I can say is that till this day it is unrivalled in terms of "soul" and what contributes to this "soul" of Deus Ex is exceptional writing, believable characters, awesome thought provoking story and themes it deals with (trans-humanism, human nature, justice, political & existential philosophy, etc.), exceptional voice acting, brilliant and varied gameplay, incredible music, awesome atmosphere and the Unreal engine (I am a sucker for the Unreal engine). The game is also not short; it is a good 30-50 hours (depending on how diligent you are with exploration), so there is plenty "bang for your buck". Deus Ex is simply a game/experience that no review or any amount of words can do justice (just as with Planescape Torment); you simply need to experience/play it for yourself to "get it" and become one of the many who know this game for what it is (even in todays "gaming explosion"): a timeless masterpiece.
Incredible game that is extremely faithful to the Dungeons & Dragons third edition ruleset spearheaded by the legendary Timothy Cain. Temple Of Elemental Evil released in a very shoddy state, but as with all Troika games was a masterpiece held back by extreme production pressures, scope ambitions and the sheer reality of not having enough resources to fully actualize the vision. Most of those issues are resolved now with community patches and content so Temple Of Elemental Evil stands on its own as one of the excellent RPGs.
The original Dungeon Keeper is without a doubt one of the greatest games ever made. It is so unique till this day and back when it was released it was just in a league of its own in terms of uniqueness. I have no idea how the genius of Molyneux came up with this game, but this was for me his magnum opus (Populous was awesome, but Dungeon Keeper was just at a whole other level of perfection). Dungeon Keeper and Black & White was Peter Molyneux at his peak. Absolutely legendary game and a masterpiece of art, engineering and design.
