Titan Souls

2D Shadow of the Colossus

In a word, stunning. Titan souls is one of those games that comes around every once in a while that gets me. Solid controls, beautiful soundtrack, and frightening depth. You are dropped in to a world of 1. You have 1 arrow, you die in 1 hit and every boss dies in one hit. The challenge comes from the bosses being big scary bastards with hidden weakpoints. You the silent tumbling child must brave the wilderness and defeat the titans with only your wit's an arrow and quickload platforms. But the story really isn't about you, or what story there is to be had. Very much like Team Ico's Shadow of the Colossus, most of the story is going on around you subtly and nearly exclusively by wall carvings. But Titan souls isn't here to tell you a story, its here to set a mood and then kill you. Over, and Over and Over again. Each Titan is entirely separate from the last and each has its own unique way to murder you and to be murdered. And while figuring out where you need to stick your arrow is easy, its the getting there that will kill you. The bosses are equal parts puzzle and simple reaction combat. You have your arrow. You shoot your arrow, you can pull your arrow back to you. and you Roll like a tumbleweed in a spagetti western (all over the damn place). And it's surprising the amount of things they are able to do with such simple mechanics. The bottom line is, This game does what it does very, very well and I have basically no complaints. If you really need a point of contention is that if you're good or have seen a Lets Play of it. You should be able to knock this game out in a weekend if not an afternoon. Not necessarily for lack of content, just somethign you wont put down. There are extra game modes for that though so... yay.
