JYDGE

What Crusader:No Remorse wanted to be

Origin's C:NR was a very early attempt at a fast playing, action oriented adventure. You controlled a tough guy on his path of redemption against an evil facist govenrment. The problem is it was slow and clunky. It demanded more than most PCs could manage at the time. It had horrible controls and the levels were too damned long. Jydge is not like that at all. Well, you are a tough crimefighting robot and not a person. You're also absolutely NOT Judge Dredd crossed with Robocop. What you do get is a handfull of small mission areas with 3 fairly straightforward goals to achieve and you unlock new difficulties with new enemy and objective layouts. There's a ton of weapons and upgrades to earn and all of them offer something for just about any play style. I'd strongly suggest you experiment with every upgrade before you settle in to your favorites. I found it easy to switch between tank, stealth and speed loadouts but you'll find yoursefl making some tough choices between personal and weapon upgrades. There's very little plot and the game is over quick but the new difficulty options will keep the game fresh and fun for a while. There's also 15 secret collectable items and 10 secret areas to find. The music is under creative commons and offers functional synth-pop new wave industrial disco fare. I turned it down for a while and still enjoyed it when I turned it back on. I turned it off for a while because there are a few musical easter eggs to find here and there. They're all sourced by objects in the game so if you have the music turned on you may miss them Overall I enjoyed Jydge. If you're looking for a quick twin-stick shooter that plays smoothly and offers you some light RPG elements, this is a good game.

Dead Cells

Addictive, unforgiving and fun

I've had a lot of fun with this game since I picked it up. There's a feeling of constant discovery and slow progress. Dying is part of that progress. Items are plentiful but doled out sparingly. You won't see everything this game has to offer in the first couple playthroughs, like I've seen with other games. New enemies in new areas are on a steep difficulty curve and that's OK with me. You con't just slash your way through this game. Yeah, you'll actually have to take your time now and again. I'm impressed with the look and feel of the game. They've really captured the Castlevania look, from the level design to the monsters to the decorations in the background. Everything moves smoothly, combat is fast but playable. You can even manage to escape, sometimes, if you've bitten off more than you can chew. Weapons and items are different enough to make some choices difficult but yo ucan tailor your loadout to your style of play. I've gotten pretty good at dodging and blocking enemy attacks, something I rarely do in other games. Overall I'm happy with this game, but man has it taken a lot of free time from me.

Waking Mars

OMG this is so BORING

I don't need my games to be an execise in mass murder or an adrenaline fueled action fest. I like a good puzzle game but man, this is just boring. Every area boild down to the same thing, over and over. Collect the pods, plant the pods, collect other pods, make those pods grow, open the doors and do it again. And again. And then again. Ugh. Listen to the stereotypical asian scientist/astronaut spout vaguely asian philosophy. Listen to the robot tell hackneyed robot joke. Just kill me. Or give me my money back. Maybe you could give me my money befor eyou kill me.

Not a Hero

Missing something

When a studio releases a retro themed pixel art game I usually roll my eyes but this one works visually. Tons of action and replay value. I'm happy the intermission scenes can be quickly skipped as I've seen too many cut-scenes drag on and on with poorly paced recorded dialogue. This game skips the voice acting with random, squeaky door hinge sound effects. It's fun, but its just missing something in the controls. Not being able to jump has thrown me for a loop. This doesn't make the game unplayable for me, it just demands a whole new set of tactics. Not the worst game I've bought but I'm enjoying Broforce way more than this one.

Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition

The Best Far Cry Game

Well, Blood Dragons is an extremely close second. Without all the silly crafting and the over the top storytelling, FC2 is the best of the open world, action adventure mayhem simulators out there. There's a lot of subtltey too. The story is meted out as mission briefings that never overstay their welcome. The people you talk to even have reactions for your impatience. You can make friends and millions of enemies. The game moves at your pace and never requires you to do anything beyone the story missions to complete the game. This game is brutal, however. It does not hold your hand, pack you a lunch or wipe your runny nose for you. You will die, a lot, to unseen enemies. You need to use your ears as well as your eyes. Wespons are notoriously unreliable, as is the cheif complaint of many a gamer who "hates" this game. C can't possibly say enough good things about this game.
