Nightdive did it again with an excellent update to a classic game. Heretic and Hexen got some fixes to the engine, sound and music along with an easy way to add mods, view concept art and abandonned graphics. Hey, they added achievements, so it feels like you're accomplishing something while you play games. If you're a fan of Heretic and Hexen, can't get enough of them and want a modern way to play them and their "DLC", this is a great package to pick up.

I like the bare bones art style and the idea of an old school type roguelike, uh, like this game is something I'd gladly pay a few more bucks for. If this were more fleshed out with different weapons, 2 other class options and and more challenging puzzles this could be a really fun SFW game. Maybe make the QTE combat work differently for each class and weapons being used. Nothing more complex than Wolfenstein 3D.

The movement is stiff, the English translation is clunky, you are railroaded through a simple chain of events, the puzzles don't even feel like puzzels... I kinda want my $2 back. But the limited rotoscoped animation is neat and I finished it in just over an hour without using any hints or guides. Oh, achievements are broken if that matters to you. If this is the dev's first game they did alright and with some work they'll make better horror games in the future.

This was originally released on the Amiga computer and got an update some time ago. I never played that version but I can imagine it was beautiful for the time. I did play Wings 2 on the SNES and have fond memories of that. The flight engine is strictly arcade with no ability to control your speed or turn by using rudders. You do get basic flight controls that work perfectly well. You'll also take part in some 3/4 view strafing runs and overhead bombing missions to shake things up a bit. If I have any real complaints about the game it's that it is too long. At over 200 missions, you'll get your money's worth and you'll even get to experience what the drudgery of WW1 was like.

Music, gameplay, graphics, sound, character design... everything is perfect. Well worth the $5 I paid for this excellent arcade inspired throwback. The only complaint I have is it plays a bit too fast. The older games had a bit of sluggishness to them that the dev of this game decided to forego. But by all means, pick this game up if you're looking for a new "old" game to play.

I recently watched a video where a game dev talked about his experience making a game. It was based in old retor-FPS movement. He enabled a setting that allowed him to watch where people had trouble and even gave up. The "F*#K this" moment in his game was where progress depended on performing an action that demanded frame pefect exectution and it had no visual or aural cues of if the action was ready to perform. This game has that same, exact problem. There's a part where the player is supposed to do this sprint-crouch-dash-charge your gun move that NOBODY in my home can figure out and the 4 of us are seasoned gamers aged 12, 12, 20 and 50. Every one of us has said "F*#K THIS" and quit. Fix that problem. Make it easier to execute, explain it better and make it OBVIOUS when the move is ready and I'll buy this game out of gratitude.

I purchased Q2 on GOG a long time ago and just heard about the update. After watching a YouTube video about the update I was ready to buy the game again. Lo and behold GOG is letting owners of Q2 have the updated version without paying anything extra. I played the N64 version of Doom when it was made available for the PC and I really enjoyed that. I was looking forward to playing the N64 version of Q2 and I'm very happy with it. I like the smaller levels in that version. The PS2 port of Q2 was good but the levels were really big. The N64 port has short levels and brutal gameplay. The only drawback is the bigger download. Pick this game up if you don't own it already, whether you have played Q2 or you're new to the game.
