There are many problems, but the main issue is that the game is cheating dices. e.g. fight is easy, the game is rolling dices for failures or in such manner that enemy will be left with one life, so he will have a chance to strike back. Currently I am in fight where something like 8 enemies after hit remains exactly with 1 life. Not 2 or 3, but with exactly one. And by the way it has nothing to do with Baldur's gate. It is only using it's trade mark
Generally, it is not an adventure and it is not a RPG, although it's trying to combine both. Unfortunately it fails in both aspects. 70% of game you spend during turn-based fights, which are bad when you compare them with any turn based a RPG or games like UFO, Jagged Alliance. There is a major error in fight system which force you not to kill enemy, but hurt them till they have minimal HP. An RPG system is nearly non-existing. 20% of game you are watching animation where you are moving from place to another place on map, which are predefined. Therefore, there is not any exploration. Story is forgettable. 10% of game are dialogues between your party members. They are really short and usually lacking more details. Sometimes dialogues are illogical, and after first option when you ask for more information the game does not allow you to select an option which was previously available. Also there are at least 2 situations when the game artificially kills a party member without any previous warning or does not give you a choice how to prevent it.
This is highly unbalanced game. The beginning of the game is terrible with stupid random deaths purely depending on dice rolls. Generally after 2 hits any team party member is dead. If you use healing than after 3 hits you are dead. It has nothing to do with a fact that there are some areas which should visit later. There, any opponent will do 1 attack and wipe out 2/3 of my party. End of the game has a nose picking difficulty. Another problem is food management. Especially at the beginning of game is terrible as game has a LOT of backtracking which consume your food, because you need to walk back to a village and go back where you have finished your search. I have seen a lot, but in this game it goes far beyond anything being a fun. Character development is mediocre and has a lot illogical things. The most important attribute is speed, which you need to increase every level. So mage will typically increase Speed and Constitution (how logical) and fighter should increase Speed and Strength or Energy. At least one sensible hit. Game is fairly linear and if you go somewhere else where a game is not expecting you will be punished hardly. So later you have e.g. 7 ways where to go and only one is expected – have normal difficulty for group. So it involves going around and trying to find what way you should continue. Quests are rather dumb. The story is pretty mediocre. Generally there are many better games which involves turn based combat and play this game only if you have nothing else to play.
I have finished nearly 90 RPG and in my opinion it is an average game. A combat is great due to D&D rules, RPG elements are also great, but everything else is miserable - quests, NPCs, plot, lore, pathfinding, trading, cities. I have applied Circle of Eight mod which should be improving game greatly, but honestly without this mod it would be probably unplayable. There are so many better RPGs, so unless you are big fan of D&D and combat based RPGs, my recommendation would be to avoid this game.
