It's great for just messing around. The main quest is not always the focus. It's a sandbox, an actual sandbox. You will be able to do whatever you want. I recommend playing with some friends (in the same room or over voice chat) who just want to burn an hour or two. Oh, and it has great mod support. This version (the GOG version) is harder to manage mods for, but still, the forums has all the mods I wanted to install. If you think the game is lacking, install a couple mods and restart your saves.
The game is crashy for me. I am on Mac. The wineskin that is used might not be the best for this game. I've played enough to say that this game is super fun, but crashes are not.
