After 8 years I finally mustered the courage and time to play and complete this game. I had the time to play and read every game/book since, so I was able to get the full experience. It added an extra something, but fear not, it is far from a necessity to enjoy the game (even if I recommend at least taking a glance). After a long adventure, the big question you wish an answer to then appears: Was it worth it? Yes, it was, however it's not a perfect game and I'll break down several of its aspects to elaborate my point. Starting with the narration and story, it had some high highs and a fair consistency in quality all around. Every dialogue had production value, but it also creates an issue where you will spend a lot of time watching a film or it pushes you to skipreading (skip the line when you read it to keep the pace, quite frequent while going through voice acted visual novel games or segments). There was care put into having a lot of details to influence with choices, even if it lacked some of the more meaningful ones due to most being self contained bits, in terms of major choices I think the second game was more interesting with some really difficult positions to cut on and strong characters(Foltest, Letho, Iorveth, Roche, even Henselt and more). Despite all that, it's still quite solid and entertaining to go along, with the exception of the final chapters falling off, likely due to the dev time coming short and needing to cut plans. Gwent is a major part of the game even as an optional minigame, and while it is a bit goofy to play against some characters at awkward timings, you never say no to a round of gwent. Honestly it would have been funny to defeat Caranthir in Gwent instead. I came from having played the multiplayer Gwent and the spinoff witcher game based on it, so I was a veteran to the rules and that meant it was overall very easy to me. This version was quite apparent as the prototype - -Too long, read the rest on the Steam review.

It has issues, and some clunky gameplay, but it is a witcher game, and if you like the world, most of the time it's enough to make it worth. The average run feels a bit short, but it has real choices to deal with. Including 2 very different turns of events depending on who you go with. If you like the witcher, then it will be enjoyable.

I completed this game a long time ago on GOG. The game has quite dated mechanics, but they can be learned fairly easily, and the global feel of the Witcher world is probably the best out of the three games. The reason it's a negative review is because of the planned remake, if this was the only version we'd ever have, then it would've been worth trying, now I'd say it's better to wait for a more fresh experience. This storyline deserves more recognition.

The second entry to the series, there is only improvements to the previous installment, though there is no direct relation to the previous plot it is still in the same world but at a different place. The characters, world building and plot are more top notch than ever and you're still as free to play with your build of choice. A steady choice if you want a good RPG.

Very simple from afar, you'll soon realize that it is a much more complex and intricate game the more you play it. If you like management and repercussions, you'll love it, evolving your cities, giving them wonders, and maybe having to put some dangerous beasts or directly wreck their armies when they get too greedy. A really interesting take on management that I quite enjoy. Definitely worth checking.

It surprisingly holds up great even now. The story itself is fairly basic, but there's fun world building and a whole lot of really unique characters. The animation is very solid and not stiff like one would expect from that era. Each mind you get to explore has a personal style themed to it and they explore wildly different ideas. Even some fun way of trying out your new powers with the scavenger hunt. The only negative I have would be the mechanical side, movement and actions can feel clunky and not always working properly. And the audio quality not being fully consistent with some voice lines. It will be interesting to see the improvements made in Psychonauts 2. You can really feel that this game was made with love and dedication, it oozes charm.
