Love this game, but yes like all the other posters said it was a pain to get to work!
IF I could have an updated version of this game with modern graphics, full motion characters, and modern engine, but keep the basic game play, I would be GOLD for years. Forget all the reviews that say their is no Righteous Fire pack, its there now. At 5 bucks its the best deal on GOG. You have to set the graphics to: Keep aspect ratio and run it on 800X600 resolution.
I am giving this game 5 stars because when it came it out it got high reviews, they proved that you can make a great game without reinventing the wheel. The only issues I had were the rudder control was way too slushy. Hit the left or right rudder button and it goes way to far left or right. The other issue is that if you go to the map screen the game completely crashes. Fortunately you don't need the map on this game. This game strikes the balance between being merely archadish or being so overly real that only Sim hounds will enjoy it. Too bad Microprose went outta business. The graphics are really dated!
NO this is not a 5 star game; please these kiss butts kill me. This game was b- when it was released and now is a c+ at best. The Graphics are so old its a joke. EGA ? really! Not VGA EGA. It teaches you how to do Federation thinking. Star trek lagged way behind Star wars because of the combat issue. You finally get good play when they came out with Star Fleet Command. Interplay went bankrupt with SFC, but by SFC3, they had a great game. The interface on SFAcadamy is a joke. I would pass on these games unless your like me and just want to donate to GOG to keep them doing what they do. SCF3 and Birth of the Federation are well worth buying.
This was a good game not a great one. It has a lot of good features and on GOG is well worth the money. However, IF they convert Gunship 2000, to GOG that would sell like hotcakes! I would put this in the same category as F15 Strike Eagle
Spoon, unfortunately was spot on. I wish he wasn't. This was the best of games and the worst of games. GOG does the best they can. But some games are better for GOG than others, for example, with the Windows patch, WC4 plays better on my (Win7)machine than with the GOG version. This game violated the basic principle of gaming: its the interface stupid! Usually the better the control the better the game. This game with all its hopping around is way too complex. The storyline and the acting are great. Is it worth 50 bucks? NO 6 bucks on gog? yeah. Get the cheat codes and enjoy the storyline. But its no Privateer 1. obiken
