Over my long years, only 2 RTS games have kept calling me back for another quick round: Age of Mythology and Perimeter. I won't write much about Perimeter, previous reviewers have covered it adequately, but I want to say this: do you know that feeling you get when you recall the best games you've played and nostalgia starts welling up your soul? This is one of them few.
It's been a while since I've seen such an enjoyable game. The visual style is a little unusual, like a 16-bit retro platformer, but still very colourful and satisfying, vapourware-like aesthetics. The soundtrack is dynamic, very cool and even atmospheric. In certain parts it's reminiscent of the golden age tracker music, in others it's glorious synthwave. The gameplay is demanding; you'll keep losing until you start playing seriously. The story itself is compelling and political enough to cause a stir in certain circles. Pay no attention to haters, son, they'll hate you anyway. This game has in it the stuff of which legends are made. It has got humour, it has got balls, it has got soul. You WILL own this game from GOG and you WILL be happy. Own it before they shut it down. It has a native Linux version too!
