BATTLETECH + Shadowrun Returns

I'd like my life back please

Getting into a mission on the campaign is too easy...it makes the worst kind of one-more-turn syndrome that it's ruining my sleep life. The campaign balance seems really good. I feel stressed often, but never feel like I can't think my way out of a problem. Mission variety is typical for a Batletech game, escort, assualt, defend. There's no LAN multiplayer at this point, which is a huge flaw in the game. Hopefully at some point I can skirmish against my kid, which is what I bought the game for.

STAR WARS™: TIE Fighter Special Edition

They got the version right!

To my mind the best PC game of the '90s. Technically competent space shooter with genre defining mechanics. But it just drips atmosphere, you feel like a cog in the machine of the empire. The windows version is ok, but the real gem here is the DOS version. The iMuse system keeps a running dynamic soundtrack (midi instruments) under your entire mission. The red book audio of the windows version sounds nice (if you really need to hear the same old John Williams cues again) but is a definite case where nicer isn't actually better. Improvements from X-Wing: Better mission definition so you don't feel like you are guessing on your goals. Enter key matches your speed with your target (when you get behind an x-wing, press enter and you have him), There is a key to target the attacker of your target which makes protect the ship missions a little less frustrating. Emperor tattoos you with lightning. Better defined mission briefings. So yeah: Fun, great missions, Star Wars, atmosphere. This is the gold standard of this era as far as I'm concerned.
