Commandos 2 - Men of Courage

One of My All-Time Favorites

Commandos 2: Men of Courage is a timeless classic that continues to stand out in the real-time tactics genre. Set during World War II, the game puts you in control of a group of elite commandos, each with unique abilities, as you complete intricate, stealth-based missions. The challenge lies in the meticulous planning and coordination required, making every victory incredibly satisfying. The detailed environments, strategic depth, and rewarding gameplay are what make Commandos 2 one of the few games I find myself replaying every couple of years. It’s a true test of patience, strategy, and precision, and its replayability is unparalleled.

Simply a Great Game

A game I always love to come back. A timeless classic.

Partisans 1941 Extended Edition

Just buggy and propaganda.

My favorite games are Commandos, Desperados and Shadow Tactics. So I was very happy when I discovered this game. And indeed, it could have been a great game. But the unholy amount of bugs makes this game a paint. I played it to the end to give it a chance. But all hopes that I would get used to it's shortcomings were in vain. Here are a few things that drove me crazy: - Clicks are constantly lost. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You can never trust your clicks and need to keep them as simple as possible to be sure that it works - not fun to play. - Enemies reset their routes after a reload. - You order a character to place a mine. It just stops. You have to direct it to the place. Wait for the character to arrive and then place the mine. - A laid bear trap often vanishes after reloading. I've completely stopped using the trap. It was too aggravating. - In some missions the alarm went off every x minutes. I finally found out that there was a dead dog lying around somewhere (which wasn't killed by me). And every time a guard came across it, the alarm went off. - Some game controls cannot be changed. I would have liked to use the middle mouse button to move and rotate with the alt mouse (like in most other games). But it cannot be configured. Rotation with the middle mouse button is possible. But that's it. In addition, the Russian propaganda is hard to bear. It is precisely this narrative of home-loving Russians fighting to protect their country from Nazis that is being used in the current war. But nothing of the current war can be compared to 1941. There are no Nazis and it's the other way around. The Russians are the aggressors and invaders. And the game was released just before the start of the war. I wonder if it was sponsored by the Russian government. If it was just a buggy game I'd say give it a try - maybe you can live with the bugs. But with all the propaganda on top. Come on. If I had a say, I would take this game down.
