Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

This is how retro games have to be done.

I didn't expect all too much when I saw the game. 2D platformer, asian visuals. Looks nice enough. Bought it during a sale ... and I was just blown away. This is one of the nicest platformers I have seen in a long time. The turorial is integrated in the level design, step by step you get introduced to new level mechanics and the soundtrack is just awesome (not that FM sound we often here when it comes to retro games). The game itself is not overly complicated, except for finding treasures the level design is pretty much straight forward, arcade style, there is not much to explore like in many western games. The equipment you chose changes your abilities, you need heavy boots to be able to walk underwater for example. Is it THE perfect game? Of course not. I think I even found a dead end, but there was a savepoint two screens before, so it wasn't much of a problem. Get this gem!

Alternate DiMansion Diary

I wanted to give it a try

The real horror in this game is the game play. But it's my fault really, I was warned about Kagura games. But the combination horror + kinky content got my attention, and that scared main char looked fun, so I tried it anyway. Contentwise it's not all that bad, the gameplay however is a real downer. It's just no fun. I like retro games but this is just beyond me. Still it got 3 stars, since if you manage to accept the crappy gameplay and don't mind walking around solving pattern puzzles, it can be somewhat entertaining.

Cat Quest

Couldn't stop

While I am usually not a fan of this type of game, once I started it I had a hard time to stop. It's so innocent and cute with loads of bad cat puns, you gotta love it. The combat is ok, I would prefer some less items, so the RNG would not be such a b*** and give me the wrong stuff all the time.

Inside Jennifer

It's ok

Several short stories, depending on the players decisions, leading to various occasions for Jennifer to behave or not, there are several guys she can hook up with and having different jobs. Some of the story ars are more interesting, some less. After one playthrough you only have seen a fraction of the game, because depending on early choices everything changes drastically. I personally prefer one longer plot instead of these short stories. If you want to see a game from the perspective of one guy with no others involved, this is definitly not for you.
