I wish I could tell you why I just keep starting this game up and playing for about an hour whenever I get the chance!! It must be because its Quake/DOOM and a few others all rolled into one, and most importantly it's lean without any of the fat. It's RAW, that could be it! or the games attention to detail!! or the music that never gets boring!! or, I just don't know. There is ONLY ONE annoying thing about the game, and that is it takes about 10 clicks from starting it up to get it started, other than that it's a true winner.
A world builder, Check. A very good and enjoyable easy to learn and master world builder, Check. THEN the "Mine" becomes accessible and a whole new genre of games opens up...!! Mining/Tower defense/Strategy.....and a few others. It gets deeper and deeper - pun intended - and a game that starts out relatively simple quickly evolves into a rich and fun experience. But then you realize you can always do it again faster better and a lot more efficient, so you do. A very Brave move with excellent implementation by the Steamworld Team, a true gem that u can play supper fast or carefully slow! it's always a GO.
I'm sure this game is fine - never played it - but the only reason I bought this was to encourage GOG to bring "Astro Aqua Kitty" here, now that's a fun game.
I already played the pirate copy and hated it completely! this is a case study of how NOT to do a remake. but since I really want a P D Saga remake I'll buy this crap and never play it, just to encourage Sega. Take one for the team.
I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did!! it's simple but does simple well, it's relatively short for a RPG but sweet and combat is fair and balanced with some witty banter and good simple RPG mechanics, if anything this game is memorable, get it on a sale and enjoy.
With todays CPU/GPU/GameEngines being sooo far ahead of yesterdays! you would expect this game to have been sooo much more!! but alas more and more games are being made/remade by talentless/lazy people/studio's who just copy and paste blindly. So basically this game and many other remakes are somewhat good games with fun elements sprinkled in but it/they could and should have been sooo much more.
I haven't felt this kind of a rush in a racing game since wipeout on the Sega Saturn back in the day. I usually lower the music on most games, but this game has tracks "music" that complement the racing tracks that are amazing and I found myself increasing the volume a few times, basically this game is a rush. play it with good headphones. I wonder what it would feel like if I toke something before I started playing again!?!?
What can be said that hasn't already been said by everybody else? Try it, love it and repeat, It was a Gem the day it came out!! and it will be a Gem 100 years in the future. It's simple, fun, and fun. Did I mention it is really fun. PS. Make sure you also get "Steamworld Dig 1" and "Steamworld Dig 2", plus "Steamworld Build" when it comes out next month.
