in opposition to some negative reviews I do believe the game is not as random as it seems; the stats are all there, one just has to find and understand them. like, speed, resistance, damage type etc pp. what struck me as weird was the traps and spells "rooms", which basically is just one action to deal some minor damage or play an effect. the "real" game is the fight monsters vs heroes. at a discount, it´s okay to get. it feels like a mix of darkest dungeon and slay the spire, where both games are better at what they do, but this is ok!
Interesting and quite well done game, especially for those who like "film noir" and, of course, cthulhu. It starts out very strong and interesting, but once you´ve solved the first case, and got used to the mechanics, you also start seeing it´s flaws. Flaws like massive re-use of assets (you´ll find the same cars, houses and objects over and over again), immersion-breaking flaws in world building (why is the building flooded outside, but not inside?), and the lack of consequences and world interaction in general. While it´s an "open world", you can´t enter most of the buildings, and there is absolutely nothing to gain by roaming the streets! But the "detective" and storytelling aspect is where it shines. It really creates a dense and foetid atmosphere. Looks and plays a bit too dated to justify the 40+€ imho, but I got my almost 25h of fun out of it!
what a great expansion. it integrates seamlessly into the core game, but offers something completely new. a real and rather dense story and a whole new underground area to explore, which looks absolutely stunning! the new buildings / weapons.. well, you don´t need them in terms of "without them you can´t play the game" but they are all a nice addition to the arsenal and let´s you experiment with a different playstyle. imho, it´s well worth the full price of 10€.
This game is in the line of many well done Warhammer real time tactic games. "Shadow of the Horned Rat" was probbly first, then came "Dark Omen", which, for me, was a real beauty of a game with it´s 3dfx support. Now "Mark of Chaos". It lets you chose the different unit types which you take into battle, upgrade them (a bit) and also heroes with a skilltree. Graphics are still OK today, only the cutscene videos look very grainy.. Story and dialogues are well done, tactics are there. Different units with different strenghts and weaknesses. Small drawbacks are hard to read mouse over text on high resolution displays and a bit of randomness IF a cannon hits or misses. If an enemy canon hits your units, you can better restart the mission due to high losses. The hero duels are a nice mini game in-game. Not the best thing there is, but since it´s mostly optional, it´s fun. This game rocks! I play it on Win11 with a 3840x1600 resolution, no problems so far!
First of all: don´t play this with a refresh rate of over 75Hz, or it will crash 30 seconds into the second level. Then, better be used to play with a high dps mouse, for any slight mouse movement will make the crosshair go jump around the screen. IF you like linear shooters, stupid enemies that all look the same (hey, some have blueish, some red-ish camo!), AND are okay with weapons that make no sense (Tau and guard rifles don´t deal much damage, but the pistol does one shot kills..).. then maybe give it a try. The graphics didn´t age well, and the sound is lacklustre. Maybe it´s because it´s a console port, but it´s all just.. meh. ONLY good thing about this game is the quite different way the imperium is portrayed: they´re an evil bunch and the TAU want to rescue their leader.
this pack contains the mediocre "necromunda: hired gun" and the good "space hulk: death wing". while both are not the best shooters out there, they offer a few hours of fun each, if you´re a shooter and 40K fan. that said, i´d never pay 40€ for hired gun alone, so i´d never pay close to 60€ for this pack.
Bought this at a discount and played it for some hours. The game feels like it was intended to be something else. The 40K setting doesn´t fit it very well, for this is essentially a "gang / criminal" story, which has NOTHING to do with 40K. The 40K artstyle is well done, though. What else is in there? - close combat insta-kill (needed to gain HP) - gun modification (not worth the effort) - inventory management / loot (WHY?) - body modifications (higher jump etc) - "bounty" system / mission selection It´s all there but it doesn´t really make it a better game, because it´s all half-baked.
The game... what can I say? It´s a classic, much like HOMM but different. Sadly, to get it to work on win11, you need to apply a patch, google "aow showscene". if only gog would apply this automatically, or place a BIG SIGN on the games page.. would have saved me some headache.
