Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy (1999)

Classic

this is the kind of puzzle story game I like. It's like playing a sci-fi novel. simple interface. easily decifered clues.

Syberia: The World Before Prologue

Wow?...

I loved the story and gameplay in Syberia 1 & 2.... 3 was so glitchy that my old PC couldn't run it when it first came out and I blamed my computer. Got it for PS and well...glitchy. Came across the series here on GOG for a good bargain so I bought the set, painstakingly played through 3 and was disappointed with the ending. I found this prolouge and thought, "ah! Redeption! I'll finally get closure on Kate Walker/Oscar!" Obviously, I have no idea as of yet if this will happen, truth is, after the playthrough of the prologue, I may never find out because I can't stand the controls and interface. 1 & 2 played like a typical free roam point and click adventure. 3 had some of the ideas of a modern RPG that was clunky at best upon implimentation, but this one....seriously, just make the darn thing a film and let me watch the end of Kate's journey. I've noticed a trend in adventure games of character swap, multiple "related" storylines that I'm not fond of. I'm sorely disappointed in the progression of the Syberia line and I think they should have just ended it after 2 (or even 3 since the title implied it was the end, even with the cliffhanger ending) if they were going to just keep butchering it. I'm definitly going to wait for the game to go on a radical sale before I attempt to play this new journey...

Syberia 3: The Complete Journey

buggy, difficult to play

I am enjoying the story, but frequently my mouse cursor disappears and I have to fiddle with other keyboard options like Inventory or enter to get it back. The dots to interact with people/things tend to disappear once I change camera angles or hover the mouse over them. Lastly, all the text in the game was not converted to English, so I can not read labels, signs nor the book that I have on the people. I am barely a few scenes into the game and I am very frustrated with it. I previously had the game for PS and thought it was just a console issue, but I am having issues here on PC as well. It's doubtful I will ever finish the story with all the complications I have faced just to get this far.

Still Life 2

frustrating/disappointing

I played this game for the conclusion of the storyline from Post Mortem and Still Life. I found those games intriging and I expected the same of Still Life 2. I was VERY disappointed when I started the game and the voice actor for Vic was different. The inventory box limits and alternate storage locations and the need for first aid kits were reminiscent of the Elder Scrolls games and I hated that it was included in this game. So much of the game was collecting nonsensical items from the ground and tables, relentless trial and error plus completely illogical solutions that mostly felt like I was randomly clicking on everything in my inventory just to see what happened until something worked. Then there were the timer puzzles. For me, point and click puzzle games shouldn't have life/death timers. I really wish game companies would create sequels and trilogies with similar gameplay styles instead of making every game in the series played in a completely different fashion. I really wouldn't replay this game. I've played the other 2 in the series repeatedly.
