"Game" might be misleading...

Personally, I dont understand the high rating on this game at all. I have had it for some time and played for a few hours but never got into it much. Its basically an at your own pace visual design. Not unlike paint by numbers with pencil and paper. Some goals for you to meet to advance as in placing a number of tiles, big enough lake, etc. And thats it. I think somehow this entered the GOG zeitgeist and became popular to review highly. I get it may not be everyones cup of tea, certainly not mine, but does nothing to warrant such a high rating at 4.5+. There is nothing innovative here. Tile games arent new. And the message of how "relaxing" and "calming" it is... I guess for some folks. Honestly, if you enjoy designing, I am sure you can find value here. My reason for posting this is more about the rating it gets than the game itself. I am totally flummoxed. Anyway, I got it on sale some time ago and have never touched it since. If you are looking for a "game" to battle boredom, get a pack of gum. Its cheaper and will last longer than Dorf.

Sin Slayers

In a word... Meh

Pretty much says it all. Super repetitive, not in a fun roguelike way. A bunch of classes to unlock but not a particularly deep skill system. Combat is the standard Final Fantasy thing, choose the right skill and click. Played about 10 hours and collected 6 classes, killed 2 Sin Bosses and nothing ever changed. Story isn't there at all, seems interesting at first glance but they do nothing with it. I was expecting a sort of spin on Darkest Dungeon. Having loved that game it may have been unfair to go in with that mindset. However, nothing of the sort to be found here at all. Ambiance, story, immersion, depth, none of that here. Bottom line, I am glad I got it on a discount, but it wasn't enough for me to not feel duped purchasing it. This is one of those games you pick up in the 90% off bin and enjoy for a few hours before you never dust it off again. Fair if you say to yourself "this guy is crazy, game looks great!" I offer one final exhibit. Look at the DLC. Whatever you feel about DLC in general, they are asking a decent chunk of change for what amounts to a NPC merchant selling all the same items only at some kind of discount (no, really) and an on screen pet.

Inquisitor

Fly you fools!

I wanted to like this game. I have been watching it since inception and thought it looked like a decent Diablo clone in a interesting setting. It has been in my cart more than once. But lack of funds, time and drive held me off. Then I started seeing some of the reviews and kind of let it go by the wayside. Then I saw it for a buck and change on a flash sale! How could I go wrong! Purchased it and laughed maniacally with how my procrastination had paid off! I was so smart! Let me not mince words... Undoubtedly, without pause, the worst money I have ever spent on GOG. I wont bore you with a long review of why I think this, many people will counter my every syllable I am sure. Lets just say in the long history of my gaming career, I have never played a game so hell bent on punishing its players. Not through difficulty or bugs or lost opportunity to follow a story, but through sheer, mundane, boredom. Boring to look at, boring to play, boring to advance, boring to do just about anything. "Inquisitor" is apply named and has every reason to be sold for a buck and change. Dont take my word for it. Go out and read some reviews. However, if you, like me, decided after some research "It still looks like it could be cool! am gonna wait for a sweet sale! How bad could it be?" I am here to tell you, its that bad. Go buy yourself a pack of gum instead. It will provide much more enjoyment than this.

The Escapists: The Walking Dead - Deluxe Edition Upgrade

Dont make my mistake...

I was duped into purchasing this on the weekly sale. It was .66 cents (US) so the price is right at least. Otherwise includes nothing regarding the game. Only for completionists who need sound tracks and comic books. Nothing for the gamer here. I imagine the reason for its low overall score.

Craft The World - Dig with Friends

Swing...

... and a miss. They tried, really, really tried, to make players happy with a reasonable multiplayer experience but missed the mark again. It is better than the original MP mess but not by much. Once again they have added gimmicks instead of simply allowing you to "dig with friends". The base is now there, you can join a seemingly regular game with multiple folks. However as of the first monster wave, they just keep coming, wave after wave, no end. About ever five minutes. So, you get about an hour of what you want, then it devolves into a what amounts to a poor mans RTS. The infuriating part is folks used to counter complaints about the Biome system with "its difficult to code" etc. Well, its all there now, they simply had to force you into this "survival" mode for reasons unknown. And it could be fixed with the greatest of ease and allow people to toggle it on and off. I get that it would upset the balance of the game have double the dwaves, but for gods sake at least make it a choice. And there is no workable solution in creative mode. Spawn cubes are not remotely the same thing. Simply allow players to enter the campaign mode with other players Its all there now, just allow the survival toggle). Done and done. Unreal my level of disappointment with this release. I gave it two stars since the other little changes they added were great. Stackable beds, new monster models, etc. But since this is clearly a MP release and was an utter failure at it, I can go no further despite loving this game.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate

Nostalgia holds true for once

A great game from the past and for once, it holds today as well. No the graphics arent on par with today but the gameplay is great and the controls still make sense, etc. One of the few games that difficulty is based on how much patience and planning you expect to provide instead of simply making the AI invincible. Walk out of cover in front of a heavy bolter, expect to be targeted. Remain in cover and they will look for a better target. A bit of a learning curve on the UI, but once you get it, prepare for complete immersion. If you like 40k, youve already wasted too much time. If you are a fan of turn based tactics, dont think twice! One word of advice, pick up the game on a round or two (or three) of regular play but get to Mighty Hero difficulty ASAP. It limits saves and death is permanent. This adds so much to the game, especially if you rename your guys and build a sense of responsibility for them. It was one of the first games I recall doing this and it had me hooked immediately.

Sacred Gold

Seaching for a Diablo clone?

Are you? If so, just go back and play Diablo. Picked this up on a deep discount at GOG and likely overplayed for that. The only reason I can see to play this game is nostalgia if you enjoyed the punishment the first time around. Certain games you would play because its legendary and you missed it somehow the first time around. Others just because they were fun as a kid. This is definitely only for the folks that would choose option 2.
