DYSMANTLE

Died a hundred times

The first time my character died, I was sad, and thought I need to start over or do something different. But, then just woke up back at my camp. Hmm. So, death doesn't seem to have much penalty. You lose your spot and all your stuff falls to the ground. Pick it up later. Unlike other zombie type games, no need to eat. There's no real time constraints. And, going around with a big tool and just smashing houses and cars into little bits is really quite fun. Collect items to make other items and fill quests. Or, just smash stuff. The game is "small" on my hard drive. Doesn't take a lot of RAM, runs on my laptop, and is really fun. I believe that there's now some logic to what the character will swing a weapon at, so that if any monster is in range, and in about the right direction, it will be attacked first, rather than some coffee cup. WASD to move and mouse to do actions and combat helps keep from cramping up one finger. I recommend this to anyone who wants a fun, challenging, easy, difficult, and low-stress game. Sometimes I like to take 30 minutes after work to just go around and smash things.

Craft The World

A lot like Oxygen not included

This is a very fun game. The crafting and research is useful and fun without being overly complicated. It is also shown in the game. Some games' crafting is all by experiment - I don't have time for that. There is a fun level of combat. Exploration. Generally very fun.

Master of Orion

Excellent Space strategy management game

This is a great game. Pros: Ability to micromanage, but no need to. In many games, once you expand enough, the micromanagement of setting 1,000 different colonies to make a certian building or such and such is a major burden. In MOO, it is easy to do that, 1,000 times, or set a policy of what you want the coloy to focus on. Even without a policy, the game engine will generall do what it feels is "best" for the moment. For example, it will automatically select to build up food and finance on a new colony. Pros: Mods - while some games are essentially just a framework and need mods to make them good, MOO is great without mods. Or, grab something like the ultimate mod, and have a go. Pros: No arbitrary and caprecious game choices. Some games will allow the player to select to research (for example) a new shield or a new rocket. This doesn't limit like that. The tech tree is more like Civilization. Pros: No need for mulitplayer. For people who want to game on their own time, this one is great. Cons: None, really. Most of the low ratings seem to be that the multi-player requires GoG Galaxy. Since I don't do multi-player for this type of game, it doesn't matter to me.

Tooth and Tail

Really sharp cutscenes

The good: Really sharp cutscenes Other: Graphics are not complex, so the graphics card should not matter much. Controls seem like they are made for a controller, and mosty adapted for keyboard/mouse. The controls are strange for an RTS. Move the commander mouse somewhere, then select the type (or all) of troops to follow. Newly trained/bought units immediately follow the commander mouse, and go there directly, even if the commander has snuck up around back of the enemy, the new ones go direct.
