I beat this and the expansion to compelte the original triology. If you are a fan, go ahead and buy it on sale. It's a well built game, playing it is not... annoying. And I am trying not to judge it too hard for 2009. But, then again, think that Oblivion or one of the witchers other rpgs had already come out prior to that. Cons: I think the "open world" is super empty- vast-dull- kinda a detriment to this game. Unlike the mess that was Beyond Divinity, there just isn't a ton of character development. Beyond Divinity actually does a lot of backround on Damien. Here he is kind of this shallow villian figure... at times. I think the story itself lost me at times-- Quests kinda suck sometimes..Its fetch this- do that- thanks goodbye! I think the quests are a very dated type of rpg style. Combat isn't awful, but its kinda boring. The platforms with balistas have ground enemies and those are by far the most repeitive. Not enough imps! Pros: I like the Divinity universe The expanision is actually pretty well made-- I think if the whole game was like that, it would be far better. I did want to play it when I got home. It is fun. Just kinda suffers time to time. The switch between dragon and human is kinda cool. I don't love the dragon combat areas but cest la vie.
I would love to buy the developers on this game a beer and talk about this game... or maybe they should buy me one??? I finished it and spent 63 hours of my life on this game. Like, I wanna know what happened between this and Divine Divinity. Can someone make a documentary on it. The plot is like a bad 80's fantasy film, I wanna know how it got green lit. The voice acting sounds like it was made in a parents basement, between two actors. Sometimes, it's not even the same voice between characters. I think you have to have a very particular love of CRPG's and maybe be over 30 to play this game. Sometimes it was fun to play, and had that go to a town, talk to people, do some quests feel that I don't get from something like mass effect in a snese. There was some cool references to Divine Dvinity, and I liked that it took place on another world. Sometimes, the puzzles or quests were so dumb or so broken, that I had to use multiple walkthroughs. Why did I finish this?? Sunk cost fallacy, and it was just so WEIRD on many levels.
I enjoyed this game for a decent amount of hours, about 40-- I could never afford the subscription to UO as a kid, and it kinda reminded me of those days. I just think this needed a little more atomosphere. More scrolls or books about the world. Ther eare some random puzzles or small things, and it just needed more of that kind of charm. The trainer thing of getting skills it not new to RPGS but I feel it was not scucessful here. The story just didn't make me care much to finish it... the world was open but also very geometric. Not a bad game at all, just needs a little artistic flair.
This was one of the better new point and click adventure games I've played in so long. I think in so many ways because it pays homage to all the classics, literally sometimes in little easter eggs in the games. Like a Grim Fandango tattoo. A seasoned adventure game player will find the puzzles pretty easy, and I actually feel like there are very few of them except on a couple longer streches of the game. They did a great job of world building, character building, that primarily drives the game in a puzzles abscense while still delivering an acceptable length. My negative would be having to right click to get my interactive options. That was annoying, but I didn't mind by the time I got inmersed the game. What a weird one.
I feel like this game is nothing short of the perfect adventure game. I've played through adventure games all through the 90's and actually started replaying them as an adult now that I'm (barely) smart enough to beat them. This game from the art, characters puzzles, and animations are nothing short of a masterpiece. It doesn't necessarily get better than this.
Star Wars rebellion is a game I compulsively played as a kid and various times in my life. I had no idea it had such a bad reputation or wasn't looked well upon till I googled it. It has depth to it that doesn't go farther than it should. You start out with a few systems, and a couple ships. From there you can manage a few different types of gameplay - building up the manufacturing or resources on your system. Sending ships to explore, recruiting all your favorite extended universe characters, sending them to research, building troops, conquering planets. You can send your characters on a few types of missions, and based on their stats pair them up. I mean, am I the only one who finds this a fun game?! I just assassinated Chewbacca! Oh yeah -and space battles! While limited control - you can have epic giant space battles with a ton of ships. This is often more epic on the harder difficulty settings. Worth a play.
