Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™ Game of the Year Edition

Stealth Combat in Middle Earth

Something between Assassins Creed and Witcher. With interesting Charadcters (Ratbag!). A little more focused than the second part.

Waiting for ES VI

Steelrising

Soulslike, but fair

Ok... I suck at Dark Souls, Surge, Lords of the Fallen. I was intrigued by the period (18th Century) and setting (Alternate Clock-Punk History). I hesitated because of "souls like"... But I completed my first play through and was very pleased with the experience overall. Still, if you are a die-hard souls fan, this game is probably not hard enough for you. I did not turn down the difficulty and was able to complete it. The save points are fair, the routes back to them also. The exploration part is also there but less so, mostly to figure out how to cross that obstacle and where to ascend through the houses. As stated I really liked the story, which was grounded enough to be compelling and also dark but not grim-dark. Advancement is varied enough to suit a lot of playstiles, but I think Agility is more easier than others (e.g. Power). Therefore: Spiders, keep it up!

Horizon Zero Dawn™ Complete Edition

Game is brilliant, if it works...

This kind of a warning. I -->really<-- enjoyed the game, the story, the mechanics, the world you name it. Progression is slow item wise which makes the skill progression (both of you and Aloy) more meaningfull. The reveal was a cool WTF Moment, which I did not experiance in any other game so far. Really cool. HOWEVER: and this is a gamble I think. I could not complete the game because it keeps crashing. On my old rig, it was not that much of an issue, once in 90 minutes or so the game would hang, freeze everything and after a cold start I could keep going. Then I got a new rig and it went from not so good to totally fragged up: I am at the next to last mission, and when I open a certain door the games crashes to desktop. This might have something to do with my graphics card (ati 6700) but no info from customer support from the publisher and all youtube help I could find did not resolve the issue. I watched the ending on youtube to have some closure... these are the 2 stars I deducted. I sincerly hope that Forbidden West is a better port when it comes out. Cheers!

Cyberpunk 2077

Runs great on an 6 year old rig

So this is for the 1.04 version of the game. My rig has a processor from 2014 (i5-4670, not OCed), 8GB of RAM and an Radeon RX590. The glitches reported (loading of textures/models) happens seldom (in the pre-act 1 cinematic with the bought car) and maybe during gameplay but I have not noticed it yet. I run the game mostly on high to medium settings. Gameplay itself is fluid but I had not much of racing yet. So I attribut the loading things to not having an SSD as is recommended. All in all I can not follow the gripe and vitriol here. The city has more life than London in WD Legion. It feels more dynamic and populated. The story so far is interesting and especially the soleplay vs shoot'em up is definetily more on the roleplay side. Only minor point I have... 1st person perspective but this was known ( yes I play Fallout and Elder Scrolls in 3rd person).
