Legacy of Kain™ Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered

Frame Time Stuttering

The Game is suffering from the same frame time stuttering as the Tomb Raider Remastered Collection. If you rotate the camera you will notice regular stutters which can also be seen on the RTSS frame time graph. This happens at my native 120 hz aswell as capped at 60 fps via RTSS. Changing the OpenGL Present method in the Nvidia Control Panel to "Prefered layered on DXGI Swapchain", a fix that works for the Tomb Raider Remastered Collection, doesn't seem to alleviate the issue in this game. As this was never fixed for TR, I don't expect this to be fixed any time soon for The Legacy of Kain 1&2 Remastered and I will request a refund. On another note, the game offers no graphics options whatsoever. You can't change resolution, Vsync options... nothing. This is simply unacceptable, really, for a PC port in this day and age. Highly disappointing.

Trüberbrook

Great game, but not without it's flaws.

First off, the most obvious selling point of Trüberbrook is the art style. With elaborate handcrafted backdrops, converted into 3D enviroments, it's is one of most unique looking Point and click adventures I've seen so far. Especially in wider areas, when the camera is slowly panning across the screen, giving depth, as you move your polygonal protagonist from one point to the other, making the whole scene look like something out of a doll house or as if looking down on a miniature, only much more fluent and lively than in typical stop motion movies or short films. Set in 1967 Germany, the charme and nostalgia of the era only adds to the stunning visuals. The narrative, however, is the main weak point of the game, in my opinion. Every character you meet is quirky and interesting on the surface, but none of them will be given much depth, including the main characters. The story feels more and more rushed as you progress, even though there are some events coming mid game, that feel rather out of place and not all that important to the main plot. It's not like the tale that is told is not an interesting one, but many of the questions raised are never sufficiently answered and much of the mystery surrounding the main story unfolds into a very predictable fashion, culminating into a rather lackluster conclusion in the last chapter. As far as Point and click adventures go, Trüberbrook is rather simple. An interation wheel replaces any kind of inventory management and user interface. You may talk, inspect, interact or use items you picked up directly with any given point of interest. Overall, the charming visuals, quirky characters and humor is what keeps the whole thing afloat and even if the story could be a bit more conclusive, it is, in my opinion, well worth the asking price and especially worth looking into for genre fans.
