This is the game, that officially finished off JoWood as publisher. They promised a better game than the inferial, "without any story" in an RPG: Gothic 3, ... and failed. Yes, they showed, it actually can get even worse. And this is the result. Gothic 3 had at least a witty protagonist. Here you have to play and to listen to the dumbest person known in all Accania. Really. It's absolute cringeworthy to listen to the dialogues. And your intelligence drops some degrees, if you follow the conversations too closely. The combat system is again, a click it dead until it stops moving system. The story is dumb. The motivation of the main char is weak at best. You have zero investment in the fate that main character. And on top of it all, it is unfinished. You have to buy the next part, "the fall of ... whatever", to get even a whole gaming experience. Avoid it like pest and cholera combined.
This game is an unfinished abomination, that even missed text strings in the german version. The box is standing in my bookshelf, besides "Gothic 3" and "Enclave" to remind me to never buy a game from these distributors/developers ever again. The game play is flawed, the translation of names is not even consistent with the first game. The games does not stop during cutszenes, giving you NO option to defend yourself against any attackers. Money making with trading is far too easy. You don't even know, why you should follow "the story" any longer. If you played the excellent first part of these serie, then you know, if you compare this game to the predecessor, that this was only a fast, unfinished and unbalanced money grab. You have been warned, don't come crying that this game is pure crap.
This game is the weakest of the series. Two has it's freedom, and Four is the best superhero emulator on the market. This version is flawed, Sideactivities were misused as part of the main missions. You have virtally only one faction to fight, no need to explore the "open world". The characters are retarded, and not at least funny. The story is short, runs as linear as a train, and the ending is unsatisfying. Addittionally you need to deactivate some DLC, otherwise they will spoil the rest of your little fun left. Bloodsucker DLC, unlockable DLC and Z-Style. These DLC mess with your money and your gameplay. I hope you are able to deactivate this crap in the GOG version. Otherwise the rating will drop to 1.
In my oppinion, this is the best game of the series. Three gangs to fight at your leisure and pace, Much side activities, Over the top story. Freedom! BUT: Technically it runs like crap, if the game is defragmented on your HD, and the car handling is beyond awfull. But, load this and install it: http://www.moddb.com/mods/gentlemen-of-the-row. This fixes the car handling, beside some other problems. And install this game on your fastest HD in your possession, because the game istself loads small chunks from the HD every time, so it does not matter how high end your PC is. Your HD and the defragmentation of the games are the only thing that matters. And under NO circumstances play the german censored version. It will make you hate all people who messed with video games in the name of child protection laws.
Without a fanmod, this game isn't even complete. Obsidion at their usual flawed work. Game stops apruptly in midflight, and crashes into a messy incomplete ending. Until then, it has been a good time, but the ending and the unsolved issue of the copied killerrobots AK-47 ruined it for me.
This is one of the titles I put in the "You made an error by buying this. Do not buy any game from this publisher or studio ever again" This game has no save game points in the missions. You have to play it in one go.
It has NO story at all. If you have played the prequels, you will be disapointed without end. This is one of the coffinnails, that killed JoWood. They killed themself with this game, Ultimatly they met their end, after publishing Gothic 4 -- and nobody bought ist. Gothic 4 is even worse than this. Even with the Communitypatch it is boring. Only some of the big bugs were ironed out.
