Jupiter Hell

True roguelike!

I've been playing this game for a bit and I'm hooked! If you've played DRL and AliensRL (both from ChaosForge, the creators of Jupiter Hell), this will feel like home. It has everything a roguelike should have: it's grid-based, turn-based, your character levels up with traits and, of course, permadeath makes you regret every poor decision, as you cannot undo your actions. You can, however, Save & Quit at any point, not just on the level transition as in DRL. And for the hardcore audience, an ASCII mode is promised as well! The gameplay is smooth, employing an adaptive animation system, which makes the game look fluent even when quickly hammering directional keys. The soundtrack rocks! I really love the metal tunes, especially the track that plays on Europa! \m/ Just like in DRL, you can play a single level in 2-5 minutes, making it a coffee-break game, should you be time constrained. But even if you only play 5 minutes, you'll feel satistified with how much action you can cram into that short time. After all, roguelikes are all about playing at your own pace while the world awaits your every move. Unlike traditional roguelikes, however, combat is much more ranged, rather than melee. The game provides cover mechanics which make ranged combat feel very satisfying. I highly recommend this game!
