This game is renowned as a classic for very good reasons. Even though the game was marred by a poor release, the foundations of the game were very strong, and modders found ways to truly make it shine. As the title says, play it with unofficial patch plus. I promise you that you won't regret it. The dialogue is great. The writing is near perfect. The ending is quite great too. There is an overarching them throughout the whole game that really ties everything together. The music is spectacular. I can't go further or else I would be spoiling it, so it is best for you to go in blind to get the true experience of it.
I find it difficult to summarize how I feel about this game. It is one of the few games that truly impacted me in a way that kind of changed the way I look at life. At a philosophical level it will impact you. The emotions you feel from the characters will feel very real. The writing is extremely authentic, and I kind of feel ashamed that this is all I can say about this game. There is basically no gameplay here; this game is basically all dialogue. If you like this type of game, then I truly think that Disco Elysium will be worth your time. One thing that really prevented me from playing this game was the accusation that this was a "commie game." It isn't. Anyone who says that misunderstood the entire game in order to fit it into their political lens. Disco Elysium is more like a Rorschach test. If you are an extremist then your extremist views will be reflected in the game. This is all I will say on the game. I highly recommend you go into this game without any prior knowledge of it besides trying to optimize skill trees, and dialogue options.
I feel ashamed to say that I discovered this game through a youtuber (derogatory). I was interested in it based on the title of the game. The classic archetype of "save the princess" has been around since the inception of video games; not that it is a bad thing, but I'm just stating the obvious. This is my very first time I see the main (stated) goal of the game is to slay the princess. In fact you are told this in the beginning of the game. You will definitely not get any gameplay that is for sure. This game is mostly limited to dialogue choices that actually affect your story (lmao actually amazing). The writing is actually very impressive. You may chalk most of them up to simple philosophical meanderings, but I find them to have very deep meanings to understand yourself as a human. As an existing being, I feel that it discusses consciousness, understanding, and mortality in ways that I didn't know before. I can't go any further otherwise I would end up spoiling everything for you. Hence, this game MUST be played without any spoilers for a proper experience.
I'm quite amazed that a card game like this would have this much effort put into it. I am just amazed. The Good If you liked Witcher 3 for its story and its characters, then this game is possibly better if not just as good in my opinion. The backgrounds look gorgeous and detailed. I commend the effort the developers have put into this game, and the soundtrack maaaaan. The soundtrack is just spectacular. I do really like how they give you some nice extras and allow you to download the game's soundtrack in FLAC or WAV. The banter between the characters really reminded me of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2. The choices you will make in this game are quite difficult at times too which makes it all the more memorable. The voice acting was truly superb, and they have done a great job with what they were given. The Bad My only few points of critique is that the dialogue at times was kind of cringe. Meve at one point said "you only live once" when I thought she could have said something just a bit better. Few of the puzzles may be a bit too hard to understand fully. You may hate this game if you really dislike card games. Another problem I had was with the little resources you get by increasing the difficulty mode. Other than that. I truly recommend this game. I am at awe at how a simple card game could be this great.
