The writing of the game is amazing, the artwork is top-notch, the voice acting superb. This is a masterpiece! I rarely finish games, what with the variety that is out there, but this is one that I have played end-to-end. Do yourself a favor and buy it!
Back when I played space rangers, I really enjoyed the text quests - and now I have a game composed only of them! I must say the translation in English is pretty subpar and probably explains some of the bad reviews- but if you can speak (or like me, at least understand) Russian, get it, it's oodles of fun, and written very well!
TLJ, why did you have to break my heart. You have such promise - when I started playing all the right building blocks were there, a myriad of possibilities for exploration open, a way for me to undertake the hard journey of going home, watching the distance to Earth decrease with every jump I managed to snatch away from the jaws of fate. I don't mind the arcade elements of the game, even if I am not an arcade fan - what I really like is to go around collecting mysterious stuff and then using said mysterious stuff to unlock stories. There is ample opportunity for that. Or to upgrade my ship, etc. etc. Unfortunately, the game is too hard. I enjoy moderate challenges - I am not of the type who will spend hours on trial and error to find viable strategies to survive. I do not begrudge those that do - for them, there should be higher difficult settings, but even on easy this game can be a buzzkill. It is quite common an hour from the start to find yourself dying with the diplomacy/trade system so ruthlessly stacked against you that there is no hope of recovery. That was kind of my experience through the couple of hours of playing - everytime something broke in my relations to the different aliens, or someone got sick and I'd have had to do hours of work just to get back to my starting situation. For me, that's no fun, that's work - and I do enough of that during my job hours. So the game has a lot of promise, and if you are the type that enjoys figuring out the proper game mechanics to get an advantage, try it. But if you are just looking to have a story and fun exploration, you might be disappointed by the difficulty curve.
Remember all those RPGs where you have to go talk to someone and then go back to your original quest giver? So you spend 10 min running around on the map? AoD has a fast travel fuction, where you don't waste precious minutes of your life doing just that. Not to mention, there are ways you can finish the game without getting in a single fight. And fights are actually dangerous. Story is great, the gameplay design is great, truly recommend this game. It is so rare for me to actually finish a game, and this one I've played three times over (and due to it cutting out pointless quests and traveltimes each playthrough took about 12 hours!)
Cute little game! I hate platform games, and I also am not really into puzzles, but this one managed to keep me intrigued from start to finish. The gameplay is really well-done with the level designs being very intuitive - an you get a lot of satisfaction of managing to start these old hunking machines in the lonely world with your little red person. The music and the art design also help to convey the aesthetics of the game quite well. My only critique is that the game is quite short - it took me about 5 hours to finish, so at 15 EUR that makes it quite expensive per hour played :)
