This is a truly fantastic horror game written by one of the most consistent authors in horror: Clive Barker. The game surprisingly isn't too marred by nostalgia, it still holds up and looks surprisingly good. The story is the real focal point and it's up to Clive's usual standard, but I won't bother going into a detailed synopsis since it's already available. Couldn't recommend this game more, while there are signs of age here and there, it's still the same old classic horror experience. Get this one! It's been a long time coming on Gog.com
A few unjustified ratings made me feel the need to throw in my 2 cents. A great game with fantastic atmosphere, while I think rating it a 1 star (!) was totally uncalled for based on price and graphics, I do agree that it is pricey coming in at $5.99 considering what you're getting for the money: a great story driven game, mostly dialogue driven and well within the whole "games as art" indie movement (so expect near-8-bit graphics that have huge charm nonetheless), that clocks in well under what you'd expect for the price. In saying that, it achieves all it has to and struck me as feeling more or less exactly as it should. Take that how you will, I stand by 4 stars. Recommended for those who enjoy this style, not so much for those expecting anything else.
A 5-star review might seem overzealous, perhaps I intended more of a 4 1/2, but I'm not too bothered about the extra half star because the quality of the game deserves it. I love the resurgence in old-school point and click style games in the last few years, and this (Wadjet Eye releases in general) marks the pinnacle. If you've played Gemini Rue, Resonance, the Blackwell games etc. you'll know exactly what to expect, only this time with charming voice acting to accompany the experience! Now, the graphics may not be to everyone's liking, they're apologetically 8-bit, but the stunning locales suit work so well in the context. There are some comparisons around to Beneath a Steel Sky, which is true to an extent, and that obviously is no insult. Give the game a chance! Know what you're getting into and you'll love it, especially if you're a fan of the genre. Definitely a solid 4.5/5
This is an A-class point and click style adventure which, while pricey, is worth every cent. The art is beautiful and the story well done, it's a wonderful addition to the genre for any fan! The negative reviews, based on languages not included in this release, reflect unfairly on the game itself and do not do it justice. It's Gog.com's oversight, but potential players will miss an amazing experience based on the score given, so think a bit harder before rating down based on irrelevant factors to the QUALITY of the game in question.
I can't count how many times I've been lured in by the initial promise of a game only to find it's been a letdown in one way or another...but here, not so. This is game is perfect at what it does and follows through on what it promises to be. It is a brutal, ultraviolent run and gun (or pummel, depending on the situation), that requires forethought and on-the-run reflexes to survive. Weaved in is a clever story which I won't go into detail about, short of saying I found it added to the experience and unsettling surreality of the game rather than feeling tacked on. It's more than worth the $10 for this gem, I couldn't recommend it highly enough!
Obviously until people have got substantially into the game the reviews are going to be initial and therefore untrustworthy (unless they've played the Czech version of course). What I've seen so far looks great, a true old-school RPG adventure. Sure, the animations are a bit jerky but we're not playing a game pretending to be current-gen and therefore these sorts of issues are debatable as to how much it *really* matters if it's a good game...and so far the game seems fantastic! One of the previous reviewers had a point about translation, but it's pretty damn solid on the whole. A quick note on one of the reviews on here so far: Yes, it's a text heavy game, but DO NOT buy a game that tells you in it's description how much text it has if you're too lazy to read it. Sure, it's not all gold but it makes searching for information more challenging and, it could be argued, realistic.
