Great at first - SUPER annoying after some time. Great war machines and brave MechWarriors, exploring space, upgrading units and space ship. All sounds great! The story is I like it. I like the OST and graphics. Alas, fights are totally unbalanced at some point, playing gets simply annoying and boring. 4 vs. a Horde or/and turrets + stupid conditions. There is no gain from tactical approach, if you try you will be massacred. Just focus fire of 4 on one mech and so on. The problem is of course Horde + turrets + stupid conditions. The game is slow! If there is more then 8 units you will be screaming the word F*** a lot! Even with no close ups and vids it's SO BLOODY SLOW! The thing I also love is total uselessness of light mechs for the player, they get one shot and Boom! And the awesomeness of lights mechs in enemy squads. If you face a mix of 4-6 heavy/mediums assisted by a couple lights, you will be screaming F*** a lot, trust me. Game is 3+
Challenging AoD combat tactical crawler. Do not try it if you hate being killed all the time or if you hate when one simple mistake leads to your whole party being massacred in a second. If you build your character in a wrong way you will simply arrive to a point you CAN'T win. I give it a 3/3,5 - sort of like it, but - the game is boring after a couple of tries. There could be more dialogues before/after events and fights or some things to check and learn about in the mines (I know it's not an RPG but It would be nice and a couple of textlines should be pretty cheap for the studio) . I also have the sad impression that only a few builds can work and most of the possibilities the game gives are useless (because you will be slain in a second with an explosion before using your party or your personal advantages, because of short alchemy supplies etc.). Not great, not bad. Some fun and a tone of save/load.
AoD is a difficult and demanding game, the world it takes us is interesting, mysterious an has the "Falloutish" taste sometimes. It's a real pity it's such a short journey thou. There are many ways of exploring the fantasy antique wasteland. The fights are demanding and usually you will get killed if unprepared or if you're stupid enough to rush into combat as a talker without battle stats. At the beginning I was frustrated many times, but almost every time there is a way of beating the odds. A player must think and of course save game a lot. Im in love witch AoD world, the narrative is great! And just like in real life you cant satisfy everybody. Alas, there are some drawbacks, a couple of "inconsequences" and less than a few disappointing surprises in quests lacking thrilling endings. There could also be some more exploration, things to read about. To cut a long story short, If you love text narrative, games with a world you would like to explore more and more and with a nice hard difficulty level its one for you. Its a very good game but It has the potential of being a great one. I hope there will be some patches or AoD II
