I loved playing the original Bard's Tale on my Commodore 64 in the 1980s so I figured that this would be enjoyable but it is completely unplayable due to buggy combat mechanics. Playing for a while and I am doing well against challenging mobs. I fight 3 waves of 4 mages and clerics and don't loose a guy even though the difficulty is red and my party says "oooh I dunno if we can win this". The next battle is just 2 fighters and an archer indicating easy 'green' difficulty and my party says "this isn't even a fair fight" and they are correct because by whole party gets wiped out with 1-hit kills and I don't even get a hit on them because for some reason I have 'insufficient opportunity' to have an ac tion even though I initiated combate while hidden in shaddows thgat should give me the initiative and first attack. Sure I get first attack with no action points on any team member and the 3 weak and under-leveled opponents kill me in a turn. I reload save game and try again and again and again.... about 8 times with the exact same result. So I give up and uninstall and warn you that this game is complete garbage
Sadly, I cannot get the sound to work propperly with my system. There are long periods of white noise static and occasionally the sound kicks in for about 30 seconds so I get a taste of what the game would be like behind the silence. Terribly sad for a game that is dependant on the sound. Kinda guts me because I would really enjoy the immersion.
the 3D rendering engine could not be initialized I will try on progressively older computers in my studio to see if I can find anyuthing that it does work on and update this review if I have any success. But from my first attempt on my top gear system I have to call this a dud and warn people not to actually buy this game as it stands. There is a FAQ acknowledging this error but a fix has not been provided at the time of this writing.
I've played card games like this before but I don't understand anything to do with what is goin on with this game. The tutorial just says click this do that without understanding what the jargon means or what the values diplayed means or what effects what. It's very frustrating and just has me yelling WTF at my monitor alot. I got the achievements but just by fluke and who knows. It's obviously not ready for prime time so I hope things get better once a few patches and more instructions on the gamelplay are published. I pre-ordered this so I do want to like and enjoy it. It looked relaxing and strategic at the same time from the previews but I didn't get that feeling on first play. Sad that i didn't know to upgrade this or that before winning against one of the freaks and loosing the ability to get it forever thus making my first save useless and now I just have to start over again. very confusing.
I bought this on another platfrom when it went on sale. Like most people, I do have accounts on other platforms and I buy things when they go on sale so I can afford to play. Aside from platform issues and work arounds, when reviews are looking at other factory games, they are always compared to Factorio. This game has pretty well set the standards for factory games and that alone says pretty well everything. It's like Lego (c) for adults and emerging adults. I have hundreds of hours played on this game and I can loose track of all time as I engage in puting the pieces together how I like. Playing this game unlocked a whole new genre of games for me and now I simply love playing factory games; but I still always compare them to Factorio. BTW: I do not think that there is another factory builder game that can do as much as Factorio in what it does (regardles of 2D, 2 1/2D, or 1st person). So whatever platform you can get this game on I would recommend to get it and give yourself a long block of time to relax, watch some tutoiral videos and just start slow.
would someone let me know if this game still requires an internet connection? description says: Why buy on GOG.COM? DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play. but the comments all say that an internet connection is required? if anyone knows for sure please let me know. AS OF 2021/07/20 I'll delete this review if I get an andweer or replace it if I get the right answer with an up-to-date review cuz I bought it.
there is no documentation so good luck trying to guess what to do and how. The only challenge is that there is no way learn how to play. Workers start dieing of dehydration and overheating on day 1 so better figure it out fast because there is no documantation so hurry and guess what to do. awe, you didn't guess right the first day so die and try again... over and over until you guess what is wrong because there's no documentation to help. I really wanted to and thought I would like the game but just want to delete it after a few hours cuz I don't have the time or patience to struggle through the 'learning curve'
