I think this game is very well thought out. It's punishing; It's immersive; It's a whole ****-ton of cinematics. I think that was one of the things that made it hard for me to get into. It felt like the first part of the game was 4 hours of cinematics. The combat is brutal. You're not a hero. You're a peasant who needs to work on your skills before you'll be able to do anything meaningful. Life is hard, and you die.... A lot. Still, don't let that dissuade you. The game can be a bit slow at times, but it's also rewarding. I haven't finished the game, but I toy with picking it back up every now and again, only to be dissuaded by the fact that I know I've forgotten everything about the game and will have to relearn it all from scratch.
What can I say? This is turn based at its best and somewhat weirdest. I've put ~40 hours into this, but that's just scratching the surface. This is challenging, sometimes frustrating (because the odds are stacked against you), but oh so rewarding. Please do yourself a favor and buy this game.
This isn't as good as SteamWorld Heist, sure. It is good enough, however, for me to sink 32 hours into. I enjoyed the game from start to finish. My biggest complaint, I think, is that I didn't find a lot of need or desire to swap out the primary characters. I didn't swap out a lot of abilities, but that was alright. The fights were somewhat challenging, and I enjoyed the story arc. The humor was cheesy, and the characters were fun. Overall, I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this game. It had a good story, neat graphics, and fun mechanics. It's rare that I beat a game, but I pretty much beat this one in a single sitting. Easy to do since it only took me ~6 hours, but it was still a lot of fun none-the-less. Highly recommend if you see it on a sale, but do realize that it's a short playthrough
I've played 2 hours of this game. I am extremely disappointed. I thought the concept was funny and wanted to play something that'd engage me in a weird story, make me laugh, and challenge me a bit. This did none of those things. The only reason I played two hours was because I kept hoping it would get more interesting. The humor (what little there is) seems to be catered toward a very young audience. The puzzles (if that's what you can call them) also seem like little more than click-spam. The game feels so linear that it hurts. You're corralled from one area to the next, told exactly what to do at every turn, and never challenged at all. All the characters feel like the same person. Every character thinks every other character is an "idiot". Everything you do is "stupid". The voice acting is fine. The game runs well. The environments are fun. Hell, I even laughed at a couple of things. The problem is that the humor dries up. The occasional humor just isn't enough to make up for the annoyance of Vladdy telling you for the 180th time that "you pick up to much stupid junk, idiot". That's literally the only thing you can do. A lot of the descriptions feel very much "holds up spork". It's as if the writers were banking on you finding off the wall descriptions funny. Yes, the first generic rock that we picked up that had a name made me crack a smile and shake my head. The fourth one just made groan. The puzzles aren't puzzles. Let's be perfectly clear here. There are no puzzles in this game. You're told exactly what to do, where to do it, when you've unlocked a new area, what's important, and what isn't. Within 5 minutes of starting the game, I encountered bad puzzle design. I picked up an object that told me to use it on an item that I hadn't even seen yet. Ridiculous. Others say buy it if its on sale. I'd advise that you just avoid it completely. Even on sale, this game isn't worth it. My kindergarten son might enjoy it, but that's about as far as I'd expect.
