Sam & Max Hit the Road

Everything great about the USA

All the other reviews accurately describe this game as the finest of the LucasArts point and click adventures. Great puzzles, humor, music, etc... I'm writing this review to just add one more point: This game is a window into the most awesome thing about America - the absolute crazy shit you will find if you go off the beaten path and just explore. I suspect many of the non American users on this site may not realize that many locations in the game are real places or parodies of real places. Snuckeys (Stuckeys is the real roadside chain store), Gator Golf, Frog Rocks all over the place. The Mystery Vortex (it's in Oregon) & the World's Largest Ball of Twine (actually in Minnesota). Bumpusville is a parody of Graceland. Sure, Mt. Rushmore doesn't actually have dinosaur tar pits, and although there isn't a celebrity vegetable museum, I have found all sorts of weird celebrity museums and exhibits, including one with celebrities made out of butter. Playing this game is like reliving a slightly exaggerated version of what it was like as a kid going on a family vacation in the early 1980's.
