Lighthouse: The Dark Being

One of my favourites

This one is special in my book. It has such a great atmosphere, I played it several times and almost finished. It is similar to Myst in its first person view, navigation system and some visual elements, but the similarity ends where the actual game starts. If a Myst is a nonsensical assembly of switches and buttons you must press and something happens somewhere (I never managed to finish it), Lighthouse is a proper point and click adventure, with dialogues, puzzles and great (for its time) SVGA graphics. Amazing also is that this game sometimes accepts several solutions to problems. It's beautiful, sad, challenging and I recommend it to anybody who likes adventure, puzzles and old school quality.

Death Gate

Remarkable fairy tale

A very special game, that grabs you and takes you into its world. In that respect it feels pretty much like a book, perhaps due to clever writing, magical atmosphere and vivid graphics that you can call illustrations. But it's not "interactive fiction", it's a real adventure game - interactive, funny, with great puzzles and memorable characters. It's definitely a superb treat for any fan of the genre, and I think with it's SVGA resolution and beautiful art it still looks good today. I played it a few years ago, and didn't feel disappointed. Thanks GoG for a wonderful release!

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

A breath of fresh air

This game is certainly different from what I played in recent years, in more ways than one. Its graphics, models, level design, combat - everything is done in a somehow new way, with top quality and lots of thought put into it, yet it has not a gram of commercialism in it. No money-milking tricks and hooks whatsoever. No micro-transactions, DLCs, collectibles, deliberately addictive mini-games, no popup messages, no always-online servers, no DRM, no catwoman suit for extra $5, no populistic cliches in the story, and no HUDs too. No kitchen sinks. What it has instead (and a lot of) is creativity, intelligence, professionalism and respect to players. After bathing in purity and honesty of this game, any modern AAA title feels like a session with a used car salesman.
