Alien: Isolation

GOAT

A candidate to the greatest game of all time if you ask me. Imo the problem nowadays is that games can be pretty boring. And there are too many of them. Is it really better to have 100 boring games than 1 boring game?? But this one has exactly what you (me) are looking for in a video game. And is everything but boring. Smooth and good looks. And like everyone says the only one that truly looks like the movie it was intended to look like. And atmosphere overall. The game also follows the "less is more"-principle imo. Its not as if the more explosions and more guns you have the better a video game is. Its about having the right ones and the right "portion". It feels almost a bit like the movie Jaws (and of course.....eh Alien as well). Tense all the way and you never know when the creature might show up. Thats what its all about. Now Thats a genius video game. More about stealth than shooting. Shooting is something you do only if you have to in this game. Its also quite long which is a + considering the fact thats its like i said not a boring game. To me this is right up there with Ocarina of Time and Resident Evil 4....Has that masterpiece feel to it. -Marius

METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SUBSTANCE

Finally......

I remember i was a little disappointed by MGS 2 when I first played it back in 2001. It felt strange not being Snake for the main part of the game and also the divided tanker/plant thing also felt weird. But playing it now today, boy oh boy, definitely one of the greatest games of all time. The first thing that strikes me is that the difference in graphics between today and 2001 is INSIGNIFICANT. In my opinion. The graphics in MGS 2 are vivid, detailed, stylish, elegant with beautiful coloring. I would even go as far as saying it looks better than many games you can play today. The quality of graphics is all about being sufficient/good enough and having enough detail. And MGS 2 will probably hold up for eternity. If you compare MGS 1 and MGS 2, I agree, quite big difference in quality of graphics. And there is only 3 years between them. But there is almost 20 years between MGS 2 and today and I would say the evolution is shockingly low. That being said MGS 1 will always be one of my favorites as well because of its story, music and there is something magical about the graphics there as well even though you can see a huge difference between 1998 and 2001, like I stated. Thank you GOG for releasing two of the greatest games ever (and for computer to boot). I have the original PC-release of MGS 2 as well but it was never as brilliant as what GOG did here. DRM-free and everything 😉

Pharaoh + Cleopatra

Finally finds its way to GOG!

This is not just my favourite city-building game. This is one of favourite games of all time. And this game is actually what turned me on to strategy-games. Because until this I hadn't been too busy playing those. But this game changed all that. My dad bought me this in the spring of 2000. To cut to the chase, this game is about building cities in ancient Egypt. In my opinion, the fun in playing games is about doing things that you can't do in real life, and city-building in ancient Egypt is a good example of one of those things. You will start by building some humble cottages and maybe even a well for your people. You will have to provide food, water, entertainment, health care etc., and as you do so, your city will evolve. If you need more money, you can build a tax collectors office. You decide how much tax the people are going to pay. Low tax will make you poor but popular (at least for a while), and high tax will make you richer but less popular. But then again, money is needed to make the city better. As your city gets bigger and better, you might even consider building the ultimate construction in the game: The Pyramid. If you're not interested in history now, I almost guarantee you will be after playing this game.
