SILENT HILL f

A different flavour of Silent Hill

This is a different approach to Silent Hill. It's definitely not a clone of previous Silent Hill games with a different plot, which appears to be what some fans of the franchise want based on complaints about this game. What it has is an excellent horror story with slow burning build-up and a few authentic frights. The story is pretty involved and complex by most video game standards. It can seem weird at first when the main characters go through with some bad things without questioning them, but if you step-back and look at the wider plot it tragically begins to make sense. The combat is more involved that previous instalments. As mentioned this is a different approach to the franchise, and since they couldn't make the combat *less* of a big deal than the early games, they pretty much had to make it more of a part of the game. It does get kinda funny how handy this schoolgirl is with an iron pipe. I still think it can make you feel vulnerable in places. People have jokingly compared the combat to Dark Souls. I noticed something else that legitimately is like DS: There's a large chunk of the story being told in item descriptions and in other parts of the game text. If you're looking for the real meat of this horror story, never leave a letter or newspaper unread.
