Mainly because of the micromanaging aspect (esp. resources and base or unit building). I would classify WiC as an RTT (real-time tactics) game. I first got into this genre via Tom Clancy's EndWar, but even I felt that one was kinda lacking something (too arcadish, but I blame it on the fact that it was made with consoles in mind). I credit WiC for bringing me closer to the RTS genre, due to its accessibility and user-friendliness. However, once you master this game, you're left wanting more. This inadvertently drew me back into playing games like Warcraft 3 (which I am currently addicted to). This game is the perfect stepping stone to finer things and will make you appreciate it more as you look back and see how far you've come with this genre.
