Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight on crack

This game takes everything that made the original great, and dials it up to 11. You should play that first, if you haven't already. The world is not only bigger, it's also more diverse and more dense. There is no dead air here (and where there is, it's deadly). There is so much more variety in what both you and the enemies can do, and it's presented with artful elegance. Yes it's harder than the original, but only in a steep learning curve. You can make things easier by looking for upgrades, which isn't a chore because the world beckons for you to explore it. Every area is unique in its own way. If you're familiar with the original, you remember Deepnest. Well, this game has about 3 different variations of it, which are more challenging but also less sloggy. Remember Path of Pain? Well, there's a couple of equivalents here too, though interspersed in different areas. Every "too hard" criticism fails to account for the stuff taken for granted. Yes the bosses are harder, but you can zip at them at breakneck pace. Yes, many mobs do double damage, but you heal 3x as much, faster, and mid-air. Yes, the angled pogo takes getting used to, but... this is a new game? And you get the trusty old downward pogo pretty early on as well. And the story is just... absolute cinema. It's not as opaque as Hollow Knight; you can piece it together pretty easily without binge-watching mossbag videos. I am a fanboy. My expectations were high. I didn't think I'd enjoy the colourfulness shown in the trailers, I much prefer the muted earth tones of the original, but the awesomeness of every area made me forget all that and love the world far more than I did Hallownest. 75 hours in and I've done the first 2 endings. Still playing, and it looks like there's a long way to 100%. Game of the decade for me. You will love it.

Soulless: Ray of Hope

Limbo without teeth

I don't regret buying it for .99 but I wasn't interested in finishing it. And Limbo is a great game, there's a lot worse that could be said about a game. It's okay. It's 3/5. Worth a dollar. Not worth the full price.

Genesis Noir

Shame about the art style

I want to play this game. It looks awesome and really creative. But I cannot stand this art style. Why does everything have to look wrong? Can't things just be in the correct proportions? I'm giving this a 4 because that's the most benefit of the doubt I can give (and the other reviews have nothing but love so I don't think I'm giving any undue praise). I just really, really hate the way this looks. It's disturbing.

The Talos Principle: Gold Edition

Seems great but has crashed 4/4 times

The game looks awesome. I can't leave a more detailed review because every time I've tried to play it, it crashes my whole PC and I need to restart it. (This happens when I die and it does the rewind animation thing.) When I start it again, it asks if it should run in Safe Mode, which seems to have deleted my save file. I don't think I'll be trying to play it anymore.

Quake 4

Didn't age well, even at release time

I don't know what these other reviewers are talking about. I played this when it came out. I don't want to exaggerate, so I'll just say that it was, in a word, mediocre. Painfully so. I loved Quake 2 and was utterly disappointed by this. The campaign was over so quickly that it felt like a demo. The gameplay has nothing interesting. The graphics are not as good as Doom 3 (I think it uses the same engine, can't be arsed to look it up).

Carmageddon: Max Damage

Worse than you can possibly imagine.

I grew up on Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now. This game took a giant dump on my childhood. I don't know a word that means the opposite of fun, but whatever it is, this is what this game seems deliberately designed to do. This game hates you, and wants you to know it. And you want to convince yourself that maybe you're just missing something, that the game is actually good but you're doing it wrong, and you are, because you're still playing it. I hate this goddamn game and I refuse to try imagining what it looked like before it was "fixed" and renamed from Carmageddon: Reincarnation. Goddammit I hate that I live in a world where this was created, let alone made a profit.

Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King

Is this a Halloween joke of some kind?

This price is an insult. Make haste and remove these games from this here website. Don't get me wrong, Aladdin is great - fun memories of Agrabah. I imagine it's the same for Lion King. But miss me with that bull's shirt.

Charming little game

I love this game. I got it a couple of years after it came out (in a bargain bin deal along with FarCry 1 & 2 for the equivalent of about 8 USD) and I was mesmerised. I loved everything about it, especially having both read and watched The Bourne Identity on which the game's comic was based, but goes in a totally different direction from the amnesia beginning. In retrospect however, it's not that great. It's quite short for one thing. The gameplay isn't that good, and the graphics are a bit inconsistent. To be honest it isn't worth its full price. Having said that, you should buy it and play it. It's great, honestly. Plus: the multiplayer with bots is a hidden gem that took me too long to try.
