I am not a fan of CRPG. Games like Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Pillars of Eternity and Divinity only interest me for the first 2 hours especially during the character creation. I got bored easily. This isn't the case with Tyranny. I am not so sure why. The mechanics and gameplay are old school. But the setting and story are fresh and immersive. I have never seen a character creation so indulging and deep that I spent about an hours not to customise the visual or the skill but to form my characters' background story. And that background story has actually obvious impact on the story as I am directly put into conflict. With that and the fact that there are no old boring elf, orc, dwarf and mythical european midieval creatures and settings, I am pleasantly surprised especially with the fact that I bought it few days after launch. Only need a few patches to fix a long loading screen, unupdated biography screen and other tiny improvement, this game will be the gem of CRPG.
The game itself is okay. The visual is unique and the settings seems fresh. The sound is quite good. It is enjoyable for a while and that's all. There is nothing in game that is some sort of great or at least surprising. The gameplay and mechanics are very simple, way too shallow. It feels like an oversimplified D&D' reskin. The story campaign is quite boring and extremely linear. Wait for discount this game.
I lost countless of hours exploring the vast multiverse of Planescape and unveiling the rich story. Not only that, the game boasts a beautiful music and timeless artwork. Needless to say, this is a great game and I completely agree to the people who rated this game 5 stars. So this is more like an additional tweak or solution, rather than a review. Even after following the Mod guide you may encounter some problems when installing/playing the game. I tried to write down the problem (P) and (S) down here as far as I could, because there is no better place for me to do so than here and the forum is too disorganized. This doesn't mean the game is buggy, only that it is outdated for modern machines. I ran this in Win 10 Asus laptop with Gtx660 and i7. P: Ascension failed number 1522 S: Due to corrupted save. Simply Delete all save game (in "save" folder where torment.exe is located) and check if the game can run properly this time. If so, put back one save file at a time and run the game. Do this until you found the corrupted one(s). P: Ascension failed number 4322 S: Due to unsupported resolution. When you use Bigg's widescreen mod, set the X value as 1280 and Y as 960. It can run now but the UI will be so small. To fix it, right click torment.exe and check the box "run the game in 640x4280" and "deactivate high DPI". P: Ascension failed number xxx (any) or error when installing the mods. S: Due to displaced files or mismatch directory. First, you need to verify the game to ensure there is no missing file. Then check if directory. To do this, open torment.ini. Under "Alias", simply put in the correct directory, where the game is actually located. it should look like this [HD0:=D:GamingGalaxy ClientPlanescape Torment] and [CD1:=D:GamingGalaxy ClientPlanescape Tormentdata] . Do this for cd2 to cd5. P: Font still too small S: Due to error in the mod. Visit "http://www.shsforums.net/topic/44400-dialog-fonts-are-not-working-journal-is-fine/page-2".
Republic Commando is a tactical FPS and follows the story of "Delta Squad", a famous group of clone troopers as they went through increasingly dangerous missions. The player controls a squad leader and give order to 3 squad members. Sadly they take place only in 3 different locations, each with unique atmosphere. However there are lengthy non repetitive set of missions which requires your cooperation with all squad members, each with their own specialities. Their expertise however made little impact in the gameplay (but you could see different verbal reactions from them as they do it) Giving command is a simple task (by pressing one button at a specific target) and required for the AI to take specific stance or action. You only need to pay attention to the surrounding and any available member will affirm and execute your command intelligently as you move on your own. They have their own AI which enable them to just position themselves (very strategically almost all the time) without your command. When you are incapacitated the other team member can revive you as commanded and/or when they can, and vice versa. The interactions among all these 4 as the game progressed and you issue commands are just fantastic and give a distinct personality to each characters. Sadly this game has a little replay value. The missions are designed to give players different challenges but by no means frustrating. You will be forced most of the time to look for covers, amunitions, opportunity to give and change commands, weapons drop and to prioritize your actions. There is however one solution in each case and with no story related consequence. There are also no exciting unlockables or achievement (only few extras as you completed different each location). Verdict: + Great AI (teammate and enemies) + Creative level design + Characters interactions + Simple command + Varied weapon drops and enemies + Awesome sound effect + NO BUGS - Linear gameplay - Few locations - No reward
