Heroes 2 is my lowkey favourite of the Heroes series. I love the art style and the music, and the gameplay is basically the same as Heroes 3. I just think the art style of 2 is a bit more soulful
Amazing music, mood, graphic design. Wonderfully evocative campaign maps with great historicity of railway construction
Bad art direction. Ugly and bland to look at when compared to its predecessors (HoMM2, HoMM3), its contemporaries (Age of Wonders, Disciples), and definitely its successors (King's Bounty). I didn't try HoMM4 for very long, but it struck me as profoundly unsatisifying. The reviews were universally negative when it came out, and I can understand why.
