This game is a strong improvement over Gladius in almost every way. Sure its not a 4X game and theres not really base building but damn everything I criticzed Gladius for has been resolved here. Want immersive good looking unit animations? For the most part (aside from occasional jank), they look awesome! Interface Improvements? You got it! Something as basic as VOICE ACTING which Gladius lacked? Taken care of! Though a good chunk of them sound like they traveled to Austrailia (which threw me off a bit, not in a bad way, just noitceable-when you're used to people hamming it up in past Warhammer games ,there weren't many Aussies doing it until now lol). Aside from my critiques being fixed for the most part, what is here? Well a great turn based Warhammer game on the same level as Mechanicus. Here's a breakdown Positives: Awesome music if a bit of a small selection (Idc, Mechanicus music was similar) Gameplay feels good! Graphics look great! Campaign game mechanics actually have some depth and the levels have variety which is something even Mechanicus struggled with These f***in people hamming up the acting as always, its Warhammer, its expected and great Negatives: UI is better though there is room for improvement (i.e certain abilities applying buffs and debuffs, would be nice if the buffs were in green text and the debuffs in red. Instead its all white) Limited Factions. This is the biggest critique. Tyrannids vs Space Marines, thats it. Granted DLC Factions can rectify this so this negative portion may be outdated soon Unit Variety is a little limited. Not too bad but its like 13-14 units per side. Again if they add more units, this negative could also be outdated later Overall, this game gets to join the ranks of Mechanicus, Age of Sigmar Stormgrounds, and Warhammer II Total War as a fantastic strategic experience with an authentic Warhammer atmosphere. Bring in some more units and factions (maybe with faction stories) and this game will be godlike. 8/10
This game is amazing! On par with the scope and quality of the Witcher 3.....well almost. Dont get me wrong, this game is breath taking. The world of Night City is just jaw dropping and constantly found myself just staring at what was going on around me. Obviously the Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are both totally different games but CD Projekt Red's attention to detail and quality of design is on full display here. BUT this game needs a couple patches to both improve performance and iron out the various bugs and glitches I encountered. Quite literally I started seeing bugs in the first five minutes of play which is not good for first impressions. However I fully acknowledge that the lack of polish could be due to the pandemic screwing things up and causing folks to work at home this whole year. That can definitely get in the way when it comes to communication, QA Testing, etc. I have complete faith in CD Projekt Red's ability to polish this game and given a couple weeks, I am sure this game will run like butter and play like how we all wanted it to. Because of that lack of polish, I have to dock 1 star from the game but if any one reads this in the future (like 2021+), assume this to be a five star review because by the time you read it next year, all the bugs (or at least the more annoying ones) should be squashed :) Congrats to CD Projekt on a job (mostly) well done!
13 Reasons why you should buy this game #1. You get to Anal Probe people and watch as their heads pop off like squeezed grapes #2. You get to force push people and vehicles like your Anakin Skywalker on Steroids #3. The guy who played Invader Zim is your mentor and quest giver throughout the whole game (yes seriously, that isn't a joke) #4. You can set people on fire or zap people with an electric gun that would make Palpatine crack a smile #5. Remastered Graphics like amazing #6. Story is actually pretty hilarious. It is offensive as it is satirical and I love it. If you are extremely sensitive and don't like offensive jokes, don't buy it. In this PC age we are in, a game that doesnt give two f#@ks about your feelings and makes fun of everyone from blind American patriotism to Communist Radicals is a breath of fresh air in our samey SJW oriented landscape #7. Gameplay Enhancements that make this game both more fun and accessible (i.e using your telekinectic powers while firing off your weapons) #8. Remaster adds in new upgrades to your weapons and mind powers that weren't in the original version #9. Remaster adds new missions and gameplay tweaks to quest to make them more fun #10. Crypto (the main character) sounds like Jack Nickelson from the Shining and I f#@king love it #11. You can return to previous locations you visited to do challenges and unlock costumes #12. You have a god damn saucer you can fly in and burn everything and everyone with a laser beam #13. It is only $30 and will give you alot of replay value even when you complete the story. To be clear, this game doesn't have the depth of a GTA game nor a story quite as long but the simple loop of destruction and anarchy this game gives you is so fun and satisfying, you'll be hooked for a while. This remake is faithful to the original in terms of content but adds just enough stuff to make it more accessible and less clunky. The guys who made this (THQ Nordic) are a very pro consumer company too. Buy it!
For those who played games like Thief or Deus Ex, the man who headed those projects, Warren Specter, once said he wanted to create the "one block" roleplaying game. A game thats not a massive open world or a big solar system to explore but an area just a few streets long. People might think this is extremely limited and boring but what people don't consider is that you can put so much detail in the more small and confined spaces that you could never have in massive open world games. Like the Yakuza series, Deus Ex Mankind Divided is confined to a small area which is admittedly disappointing for a Deus Ex game at first (considering part of its charm is the globe trotting aspect to it) but you soon realize that there is just so much detail in this area that it doesnt feel small at all. In fact, I felt more immersed in this game than in the entirety of games like Skyrim or Assassins Creed. EVERY quest, be it a side mission or part of the main game, is relevant, detailed, and memorable. EVERY detail serves to show you a world gone mad. No place is generic, nothing is filler. Like the Witcher 3, every quest has some purpose and has you making decisions that can change the outcome of something both large and small-small in regards to what people could live or die and large things like how the city itself changes based on your deciisons throughout certain missions. Some people say its biggest fault is that it ended too soon or left a cliffhanger in a way that felt like it was building up to something even greater and this is a valid critique. I too felt similar however I realized I sunk nearly 30 hours into this game and I didn't do all the side quests nor explored every nook and cranny of the world you're in (and believe me, I spent at least 5 hours just exploring). This is not even factoring the amazing DLC mini campaigns nor replaying it to find different outcomes. Buy this game, with it being DRM free at currently on sale at $7 with expansions, it is a steal!
I loved the first Overlord and remember playing the Second when I was like 12 years old. I bought both on Steam back in high school but after getting into GOG's DRM free model of play, I was sad that the second game wasn't on here. Now finally it has arrrived! In terms of living up to the original, this game improves on its predecessor in almost every way. Gameplay is better, AI is more responsive, battles are more fun with the Roman-esque Empire you have to fight against. Your lair is more expansive and alive than the originals castle and it is more challenging in general (PLUS MORE MISTRESSES! <3) Only downside? Aside from how long it took to get to GOG, the story I think is not as good. The premise is fun and interesting but in my opinion, the first one had more mystery and beautiful fantasy. Lets put it this way, the first game felt like being a wannabe Sauron in a Lord of the Rings-esque universe where you fight elves, dwarves, nature, men, halfings, etc. The second game feels more like Warhammer if you were a wannabe Chaos Lord fighting the Human Empire. Sure there are elves and dwarves mixed in it but the primary focus is on the Empire. But again, this downside is more subjective and just something I felt between both games Overall, great game, great sequel, great that it finally has gotten released on GOG!
Love this combination! The gameplay is smooth and solid! The setting is perfect! And it has plenty of replay value! The only downside I suppose is not having diplomacy with other factions but then again, it's Warhammer 40k, endless war is kinda the name of the game here. And on that front, it does really well. Even during the late game with lots of units on screen, my computer has no problem handling it Overall Pros: Great setting Smooth gameplay Great replayability Great Optimization Lots of units on screen Animations are great Cons: No diplomacy Moving units when there are lots to control can sometimes be annoying Needs MORE RACES! They should add Chaos without a doubt, maybe my Tau bois and even the Eldar. I will happily pay for them as DLC Game might get laggy for lower end PC when at the late game with lots of units on screen Needs a more expansive research tree
Personally I think this adds just enough to justify the $6 or so price tag. I like the new stuff they added and you know if this was in the hands of a company like Activision or whatever, that they'd happily jack up this content to like $20. While calling this an "expansion" is a bit of a stretch in my opinion, it does technically expand the game in some ways. More cards, another companion, stuff like that. I hope for their next DLC, they do develop a massive expansion for it because I see this game having tons of potential. What we got here is definitely sufficient, the price tag is perfect, the content is significant enough, my only request is that they give us alot more of this stuff in the future aka a true "expansion" pack!
Im getting the same crash alot of others are. On Windows 10, as soon as the game launches, I get the rdroid_gnome crash and I tried one of the other reviewers suggestion by doing a clean install and then going into the video settings BEFORE launching the game but as soon as I clicked on video settings via GOG Galaxy, it crashed all the same. Anyone have a fix for this? Will happily give it five stars as soon as this is fixed
