Even when I don't think this is the best RPG ever made, I think this is the most charming RPG ever made. Some months after playing it I still smile every time I hear a song from the game or every time I see a reference somewhere. This game is like a new friend that feels like an old one, not in the sense that it imitates the past(because there are a lot of other games that do that), but in the sense that I feel an attachment to this game like if I had grown up with it. I know that this is just my own experience and everyone experience the game differently, but you will not now if you can connect with this game until you play it, and given the possible reward and the low price I think it deserves a chance. Even if you don't fully connect with this game I think you will have a good time.
This is a 2D side-scroller with elements of RPG, platforming, hack & slash and a little bit of metroidvania (but not too much). Everything is well implemented. When I play indie games, many times the indie game is above the average AAA game but cannot compare with the AAA great games, but this game it's at the level of a AAA great game. This is one of the best games I ever played, everything in this game is so well: the graphics, music, story-telling, gameplay.
This is the best looking of all PoP games, unfortunatly the gameplay it's horrible. The beggining it's cool, but after that you have to complete some platforming areas with very few enemies(something like one or two per area), after passing and area you have to pass it again collecting lums (I stopped to playing this game after see that I was supposed to collect lums, collecting lums it's good for Rayman but not for PoP). All the fights are one vs one, forgot the great combat system of the SoT series, forgot all the traps, and one remains the ptaforming elements. This game isn't challenging, doesn't have any traps, have very few fights and it's very repetitive. Maybe you can say that this PoP have exporation, but I didn't find fun to explore because most of the zones looks very similar (dark and grey at the beggining and green after finishing it). Also, the story isn't great, but the story is not the strong point in any Prince of Persia(if you want a good story play Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VII, not action-adventure games). Ohhh, one last thing: yo cannot die. I don't think it's a great fault, I think the worst faults was removing traps, reducing the combat and adding the lums.
This Prince of Persia has the best bosses in all of them, the combat is almost as great as in Warrior Within, the platform sections were also great, like in all the games of the SoT trilogy, but it's better in Forgotten Sands(yeah, forgotten sands has one strong point, despite of all his weaks points). Also, the story in The Two Thrones is the best in the trilogy, many pop-fans says that is the worst, but it was because Ubisoft made a soo good trailer that raises the expectations of everyone and when the game was realeased, it dissapointed the fans, and after that, the fans started to claim that Ubisoft changed the entire perfect game for a garbage game in the last months of developing. But if you check the story of the SoT, you can notice that is too simple, it's good, but too simple; the story of warrior within is more complex, but it's forced and stupid (the Dahaka was suddenly introduced in the plot without any previous reason, also, in SoT the prince prevented himself to realease the SoT when he prevented the war, so it doesn't have sense to prevent the creation of the SoT to prevent himseft for realese them because he never realeased them; if the Dahaka chases the prince, it's because he doesn't belong to the timeline, but preventing the creation of the SoT couldn't fix this; also if we ignore the previous facts (alert, SPOILER of Warrior Within), if he prevented himself of being chased by the Dahaka, he would never arrive to the Isle of Time, so, he couldn't fix it, it's a paradox). But the story of Tho Thrones is a lot better, there is a good reason to introduce the enemy and his intentions using the plot of the two previous games(unlike the Dahaka), also the fight of the prince with his dark side is very interesting; I will not say more to not spoil. The flaws of two thrones are the next ones: the sealth killing moves using quick time events(simply, these doesn't work, killing moves works better without quick time events), the parts when you play using the dark prince (it's terrible to be running because the life is decreasing), you cannot back to previous visited areas, it's more linear than warrior within but newer (why remove so good feature?, it was nice in warrior within to go back to pick some items or health upgrades if you forgot them). And it doesn't have enough checkpoints. The flaws exists but it still deserves 5 stars.
This is my favorite Prince of Persia, it has the best combat system in the franchise(a little better than TT), freedom to return to areas already passed in order to get missing items(nearly from a metroidvania game) ; the puzzles and platforms are as good as in SoT and TT. Also feature some "scape from Dahaka" parts. It's something like pass platform parts as fast as you can with the sensation of being chased. The graphic style is dark, the darkest in the franchise, it doesn't resemble the arabian nights but the ancient Persia. The music is like a mix between persian music with heavy metal. The story is stupid, but the story never was the strong point of the franchise. The boss fights are not as good as the ones in TT, but are better than the ones in SoT.
This is one of the best games that I have ever played. Awesome climbing, good combat, good ambient and good story. It's a perfect transtion from 2D Prince of Persia to 3D with almost no sacrifices, everything is better. This game is not my favorite Prince of Persia game, but is the one that defines the formula from this epic saga.
