First let me state, I have both D:OS 1 and 2. That being said, I think it is really unfair and short sighted for other commenters to go on about this just being D:OS 3. It is not. Does it have a lot of game play similarities? Yes. But I mean, it is the studio that MADE D:OS so I don't hold that against them. Honestly, I got this game like 5 days ago, and I am already 30+ hours in, on my second play through. I was pretty hesitant to buy the game, because I made the mistake of reading all these reviews, and although I enjoyed D:OS, I wanted a different story, and slightly refined gameplay. This has that. Then you have the D&D 5e purists, that nitpick every little difference. This is a RPG game, not a tabletop. There will be difference. But what I enjoyed was the back story regarding D&D mythos that I easily recognized from my youth. So here it is, the game is beautiful, graphics stunning. The character models are very nice, and great emotional range on NPCs and companions during your cinematics. The quests are cool, the cinematics are beautiful. There are some little things I hope get fine tuned, but overall I am really enjoying it, and chomping at the bit to see more content, and where the companion stories go. There is already a great modding community for this game, so make sure to check that out. The game plays pretty clean, I think in 30+ hours I have had 2 crashes. There IS a couple cinematic bugs for the PC (especially with the dream sequences) but I am sure that will be fixed in patch 4. The only thing that bothers me, is after playing the content in alpha (which admittedly is larger than I expected). I just really....really don't want to wait a year or more for the full game. But so is life. In closing, don't let the "It's D:OS 3, not BG" people, or the "It's not true 5e GRRRR" people in the comments ruin it for you. If you like a good RPG game, this really is worth the investment in my opinion.
I have to say, after all the hype I was a little let down. Overall it was a solid, if maybe a little shallow turn based RPG. The companion conversations were shallow, with no payoff really. The combat was pretty standard. The graphics were nice though. There were some serious bugs and crashes here and there, I have to admit. Also, the fact that if you have the camera zoom in during conversations, you basically cut the head off of the person you were talking with. It really broke the immersion, and finally I just had to disable it in the options. The abilities were good, I have to admit. The powers, and how they interacted with other abilities was well thought out. Just keep in mind, you aoes also hurt your team members. The story was standard. Become the next hero/ruler and defeat the evil guys/demons. There were a good number of side quests. But the mapping system could have use a little fine tuning. The crafting was a complete waste of time, it seemed like something they threw in last minute. If your looking for a game like Dragon Age with deep companion storylines and relationships etc, this is not the game for you. If you looking for a generic turn based rpg, with pretty graphics, and the game is on sale I would say go for it. But honestly I have more fun with Mutant Year Zero - Road to Eden, though that games story isn't as in depth and the game isn't as long.
Been looking at this game for a while, finally got it while on sale. Overall, very enjoyable game, cool characters, moderate learning curve and challenging content. Each character has their own speciality that they bring to the team. Overall, the story was ok, though I wish they went a little more in depth, put some more meat behind the scenes rather than using a simple image with minimal animation to tell the tale through the Elder, and the other characters in the Ark. Would have been much better if they were actual theatric scenes which are pretty common in games today. The one thing that really bothered me though, and lost the last star, was how slow they ran. There should be a slider to adjust that. You had 2 speeds of running, a slightly faster speed when your flashlight was on, and the "stealth" speed when it is off. I just wish I could have adjusted those. The leveling system and the weapon upgrade systems were good, though the circular items you needed for the bar upgrades were almost impossible to find. The other "scrap" was suitable for the needs in regards to upgrades. Not to many, not to little. Overall, I recommend picking up the game, it was fun. Though I would recommend waiting for a sale.
