I had just come off my first playthrough of Breath of the Wild and thought I would try this again. I did not get far the first time or even this second time, but using an online playthrough inspired me to stick with it. I am glad I did, and I started over with the knowledge I had learned. I got the hang of it and it is fun. I wanted to play the Enhanced edition, but the PC I am running on would not take it. So I don't know exactly what I am missing, but this is great all the same. I may try Enhanced on my better PC for the second one. I appreciate games which track the missions so I don't need to keep notes. I am a little bummed that some of them time out, but apparently you can talk to the person who gave you the mission and go at it again. I can see why this game has the reputation it does. It a very cool game.
This has been a blast for me. I am not sure how far I am through the game, but I think it is taking me longer than the 2.5 hours projected. This is a platformer with tons of references to other games that I won't be the one to spoil for you, but I will say I don't think we're in Kansas anymore because it looks like we are in Donkey Kong Country! What else, let's see. You have nine lives before the game is over, and there are mid-way stations you can activate. This is good because it has a lot of precision platforming in each level you need to master. The controls are super, and you need them to navigate all of this precision timing. You can variable-height jump by how long you hold down the button, and you can scratch-climb walls which has saved me many times. I will be eager for some DLC if they do some, or looking at other games the team has done. Just delightful, colorful, catchy music, loads of references. I was about to head to bed and thought, I bet I have enough time to work my way through one level of Super Catboy, and I did.
I don't have nostalgia for all of these older games on GOG, though I do know some of them. For me, it is fun to grab some older games at a decent price and just see how far gaming has come in my lifetime. So for me it is a fun mix of modern games and some of these older ones sprinkled in. This one seems pretty crazy and fun. We'll have to see how far I get based on some of the reviews I read, but I am not a completionist. Playing Might & Magic I was a great experience, but I did not feel I needed to play the whole thing.
I was drawn to this game by a reviewer who compared it to some of my favorite LucasArts games, so I decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed it and will work my way through the other games in the series. I'm not a player who wants to fumble along for a really long time just to say I totally solved it, so I did use the hints from time to time. A game with progress hints built in is really nice, as was the notebook when I needed to consult past clues or get a number sequence right. There were little hints of adult humor that flashed past in the dialog, nothing that would keep me from letting my kids play it, but enough to make it fun. Congrats to the devs and many thanks to GOG for making this one available. It looks as though the original version is available among the additional files, if people are attached to the original. I wasn't, having never played this game before. Also, I stumbled onto the Broken Sword 2.5 game in the games listings here and looked it up. That will be fun to try out sometime. Oh, and this game gets my "Best Use of a Toilet Brush" award. Classic!
