Mafia: Definitive Edition

Looks and plays great.

This game looks like an open world, but it isn't. It's a series of missions where you only get to interact with the city and its surroundings while you're on a mission and have an actual place to be. But that is by no means a downside, it just makes it a little less ambitious than GTA. Which is a good thing in my opinion. Because what the game sets out to do - which is to tell a crime drama story - it does very well, and the mission-based structure fits it perfectly. I have not finished the game yet, but so far the plot and characters are very solid, the story is gripping and the cinematography top-notch. Nothing to blame here, an incredible crime drama. Gunplay is not something to write home about, but it does the job. Driving is very satisfying, I would say it's as good as GTAs - but you get very different cars, of course. I haven't played the original, but the remaster employs a number of modern graphics techniques and looks modern, especially the city, cars and weather effects can look incredible. You can still tell its older origins sometimes though, especially when it comes to characters.
