This game seems unfairly difficult at times, and the first time players should probably just play on easy mode until they grasp most of the game mechanics and tactics. But it is very rewarding to actually beat it once you get your perfect setup and a lot of luck in one playthrough. It is extremely RNG based, and all the events and systems are randomly generated each time you start a new game. Some playthroughs you might not even make it past sector 3, and some you'll be able to reach the final sector only to be brutally reminded that the flagship is no pushover. Since the game randomizes everything, no playthrough is the same, and it makes the game have lots of replay value. and with the addition of "Advanced content" you get access to huge numbers of weapons, drones turrets and what not. And another great thing, it works natively on linux (I used Ubuntu 16.04 at the time of writting the review) with no issues at all (at least none I've noticed). Someone recommended the huge mod called "Captain's edition" which adds even more randomness, weapons and tactics into play, so after you've learned the basics you could check it out. Some people hate the mod for whatever reason, but I liked it, it added content so I don't get how could it be bad. I give this game a 5 star rating because of the replay value and a great content.
I got this game on summer sale 2017, cost me a bit under 60 cents (euro) Got back to the game library, opened up the game window, and it is only 28 MB! I thought hey, whatever, I'll try it. I don't usualy enjoy text based games, but this one is something special, don't know if it is because of the theme and the topic of "hacking" or what exactly, but I got a good 10 hours of game in just a week of owning it. (which by my standards is a lot). Also just to clarify, by saying text based I mean that there are no real sprites or characters to control, there is of course a GUI and it is a fine one, even better when you figure out it is customizable with themes you can either create yourself of find on the web. I enjoy the trial and error aproach, the game does not tell you everything you should know to become the number 1 uplink agent. The ingame tutorial is good enough to get you started, but soon enough you'll find yourself looking at a problem which was never mentioned in it, and you're then either gonna try and figure it out yourself, or take the easy route and look up some tutorials online. Anyway, I give this game a 5 star rating because it did manage what many other games didn't, keep me playing.
