I never played Castlevania since I was a SEGA guy but I really liked this game! A few, even basic, things were confusing at time but I can forgive that, since the game is also about finding secret and hidden items and rooms. I think it's awesome that game got updated for a modern audience with the help of the kickstarter backers! If you like any games of this genre - jump 'n' run with a lot of weapons to choose from, then this game is for you! Oh, also there's some humor mixed with the challenge occasionally. That upset librarian always cracks me up. xD
I really liked the first game. It's cute and sassy and the the tile-matching minigame is quite entertaining. I only wished the developer would have sticked to the old formula more. I get that it's a new game mechanic but having only threesomes is kinda... well, weird. In the end the game does not take itself too seriously though, so I can overlook the sometimes... interesting writing and assumptions about society the author seems to have. And I don't mean that in a porn = bad way, obviously. All in all I am having a ton of fun with serious and it's always nice to randomly play a date level or two.
This game really hits the right spot for me. I'm not sure I can even review it objectively. Somehow Owlcat always chooses the settings that I really love. First fey, now demons! Perfect! I know not everyone loves old-school isometric RPGs but man do I like the atmosphere! That being said, not everything is perfect but I am still giving it five stars because it really got me hooked. What I did not care for much in Kingmaker was the city building and it's basically the same here. It's just not fleshed out enough to be good in its own rights and the genre clashes with the roleplaying aspect of the game in my opinion. Now we also get to play Heroes of Might & Magic / King's Bounty. At first, I wasn't super into it, again - distraction, but I kinda started liking it after a while. It can provide some entertainment and mix things up a little. What I really liked about WotR was its sheer size. Kingmaker already took me a long time to finish and this one feels even more epic. You got some nice mass battles and also you get a lot of choose-your-own-adventure style texts, in which you get to make some decisions concerning the story and your character. So while the story is not super deep or emotionally engaging it still creates a really interesting world and atmosphere. The map and exploring the paths on it can be a bit confusing and frustrating at times but I am so thankful for the turn-based option during fights! This makes the game so much better in my opinion! I put many hours into it and I plan to replay it with a different character and alignment as soon as I am through with it. It's such a good game! Some people may find the graphics or the isometric view in general lacking and some may find the game a bit repetitive. Otherwise, I think it's really good at what it does and I am definitely going to buy the next iteration of the pathfinder games to support the developers! Five out of five stars for me!
