Visually, Doom 3 still holds up really well - great lighting engine. The game itself is really fun too, with cool weapons and enemies. Some of the "enemy pops out of wall and ambushes you" bits are kind of lame, but they're just unpredictable enough that they keep you on your toes. Hard is still maybe slightly too easy, though recommended for a first playthrough when you're not as aware of all the tricks at the game's disposal.
I believe the most recent negative review simply misunderstood what the Law of Balance actually is and missed much of how it is talked about and the ending of the story itself. And the condescension dripping off of that author is obvious. FMDM is of merit and a good story with good characters and an interesting worldview. It is certainly edgy, but that is not a positive or negative, it's simply a *thing* that the work is.
