I got a Control Ultimate Edition GOG as keys were given away for free on Amazon prime and peddled away for pennies on the gray market. As I haven't payed more than a pittance for the game my perspective is more lenient than if I'd payed full price. I played through the whole game with both DLCs and finished nearly all missions and the game ran stable on my computer (Ryzen 5700X, RTX 3080, 32 GB RAM, Win10). This can't be said for the Anchor boss in a side mission where the game crashes reliably. It's mind boggling how a company like Remedy can ignore this issue for years and remain well respected in the industry. Despite it's flaws and questionable game design choices I had fun with the game and would recommend trying Control tentatively.
For me this game is a dream come true - playing a space game with this Firefly feel to it. Even if that game would have been bad I would have bought it for the incredibly good soundtrack. For the price of € 6.69 on the current sale it's a steal and a must buy.
Be prepared that aside from the common backstory SW2 is very different to SW 2013. While FWH's first take on SW had an interesting story SW2 is pure visceral fun. Some may lament this development but hey why not try something new ? The game world is beautiful and detailled. Especially the Zilla City levels give every cyberpunk shooter a run for the money. No wonder as FWH's Hard Reset showed they know a thing or two in how to make this kind of game. SW2 is no game which will keep you interested for hours on end because you want to unveil the story. But if you want some pure mindless fun in slicing and dicing your opponents then this game is warmly recommended and I didn't play DOOM for the story either. The game was well optimized at release which is a rare thing these days and runs in 4k on ultra in 40-45 fps with my R9 390X. Especially worth mentioning is the elaborate screenshot functionality where you can switch off the HUD and work on the final image like in an image processing software. I've never seen this done before.
How many games do you revisit after more than a decade since release ? How many games have a vivid modding community after this time ? TES III Morrowind is for me the peak in the Elder Scrolls Series as there is so much love put in details of the world e.g. each faction has its own architecture and culture. Of course its a - very good - old game but mods like Ornithopters overhaul or Tamriel Rebuilt breath new life into it. I still have the original disks but better save than sorry. So I'm buying it here at GOG a second time. If you're into RPGs and never played it you owe it to yourself to try it out.
I played the game when it came out and still after all this years the game is looking good. There is a big variety in the maps which look beautiful even today. You get a lot of different weapons at your disposal and you have to choose the right one for every occasion. In some levels you have to defend your position and must place your soldiers, turrets and energy fences strategically to fend off the onslaught of your enemies - a welcome deviation from generic FPS gameplay. The version sold on GOG runs well on my system Win 8.1_64, 16 GB ram, HD 7950, Phenom II 965 BE @ 1920x1200. Wheras the original version was prone to crashes I had none so far and I'm two thirds through the game. For me the game loads in about 20 seconds so I can't confirm the long loading times other reviewers complain about. So people stop whining that it's not Unreal II as you imagined it. All in all it's a good game in its own right.
