The game is challenging, you really have to keep your ship up-to date with your level. If you do not pay attention you will be punished. This is why you can read negative comments about enemies levelling with you. Progression in that game really comes from crafting allowing you to have better quality components rather than from levelling up. Perhaps game would be more accessible if some areas would be less demanding while others more. For instance given area should be <1 - 20> +2 meaning it has enemies 0-2 levels higher than you but up to level 20 (+2) only and others could be <5-20> -2 meaning the enemies can be from 3 to 18 levels, having level 5 when you have lvl 1-7 and up to 18 when you are at level 20. Dogfighting is really nice, you need some experience and tactics. Device use is a must. Weapons should be suited for engagement and such. There could be a bit more exploration, I really like planet levels, and some more complicated asteroid and such, but I understand its more difficult to generate them and they require some hand design.
It is kind of game, to which you return to in your 800 games library, when you "dont have anything to play". No strings attached, just nice dual stick shooter (though its keyboard and mouse for me). There are different playstyles you can engage - more cautious with sniping, camouflage, energy shield. Or more of a shoot first, ask questions later. Nicely done rouge-like part. When you die, you keep credits which you can permanently improve character, or give it a next run boost. There is a good balance between grind and fun. You do notice when you repeat lower floors that you got some resources extra, but game doesnt require that, its mostly about skills and luck in pickups, as well as some decisions along the road.
